Data Acquisition or Input and Processing or Retrieval, Analysis, and Synthesis of Data

Data acquisition is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. The data collection component of research is common to all fields of study including physical and social sciences, humanities, business, etc.

Data processing is the collection of data and the organization of that data into a meaningful format. This can be done manually or with the use of computers. Data processing can be used to identify patterns and trends in data, and to make predictions about future events.

Data analysis is the process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, and supporting decision-making. Data analysis has multiple facets and approaches, encompassing diverse techniques under a variety of names, in different business, science, and social science domains.

Data synthesis is the process of combining data from multiple sources to create a new dataset. This can be done to improve the quality of the data, to increase the size of the data, or to create a dataset that is more representative of the population.

Essential Components of Computer Systems Including Hardware and Software
