1. Describe the main methods Sergeant Baldwin and his staff use to maintain order and safety in the prison. Take a position on the effectiveness, risks, pros and cons, and ethics of these methods.
The method used by Sergeant Baldwin and his staff to maintain order and safety is keeping the prisoners in knockdown whereby they are confined in their cells for a day or more than a day. The effectiveness of lockdown is that it enables prisoners to calm down. However, the risk of lockdown is that inmates make their anger known by causing disruption.

Terry Dibble was imprisoned for murdering two people. He was transferred from downstate prison to Statefield for fighting with an inmate. Dibble who has a girlfriend that was introduced to him by her mother faces the issue of being close to her girlfriend. His aim is to will a transfer request to be back in Malmoe where he can regular see his girlfriend.

The prisoners normally developed improvised protection from plastic bags to help protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases.

Several recommendations for improving the conditions in Statefield prison include reducing the amount of lockdown to give inmates enough time to interact. The isolation technique should only be used against inmates that show violence and abuse to increase the safety of others.
