Evidence-based practice plays a major role in improving health outcomes, enhancing the patient experience, lowering the cost of healthcare and improving the work life of healthcare providers (Boller, 2017). Therefore, evidence-based practice is crucial in the achievement of Quadruple Aim. The achievement of Quadruple Aim is realized by using current and best practices from research findings (Bowles, Adams, Batcheller, Zimmermann & Pappas, 2018). For example, the inclusion of better work life for healthcare providers was as a result of evidence-based practice. Therefore, there is a positive link between evidence-based practice and Quadruple Aim in healthcare across the world.
Evidence-based practice will improve patient experience since it will reduce the complications associated with chronic illnesses such as cancer. It will develop medical procedures that will reduce the pain in a patient and offer faster treatment (Melnyk, 2017). Additionally, evidence-based practice develops solutions to prevent illnesses further illnesses. Hospital-acquired infections have been minimized using current and best practices. The level of patient satisfaction will improve when the various findings are used to promote better healthcare (D’Alleva et al., 2019). For example, Telehealth is an innovation that helps patients to talk to real doctors from a remote location. The doctor will provide a medical perspective of the condition and prescribe the right drugs. Telehealth improves access to healthcare, which is a major pillar in enhancing patient experience.
Evidence-based practice will improve population health by enhancing treatment and preventing diseases. Health statistics indicate that only approximately 5 percent of the world’s population is not affected by a disease (Havens, Gittell & Vasey, 2018). Therefore, over 90 percent of the population is suffering from at least one health complication. Population health can be improved through collaboration with government agencies to promote healthy behaviors such as healthy eating habits and reducing alcohol consumption. Evidence-based practice will also help in designing healthy programs at workplaces to prevent illnesses (Wagner et al., 2018). Additionally, the current and best practices will inform health organizations on how to empower the local agencies to boost community prevention.
Evidence-based practice is effective in reducing the cost of healthcare. The reason is that it will eliminate some unnecessary medical procedures that lead to wastage of resources. It will reduce cases of misdiagnosis and thus the accurate prediction of the projected health costs in the future (Wagner et al., 2018). For example, countries that do not make a clear prediction of the drugs or skills they will require in the future, end up spending more when they make last minute fixed. People have paid millions of dollars to seek cancer treatment in foreign countries (Boller, 2017). However, with evidence-based practice, it will predict the kind of equipment, drugs, and specialist a country should have in the future. Thus such a country will reduce the per-capita cost of health.
Evidence-based practice will improve the work life of medical practitioners by reducing clinician burnouts. Various hospitals across the world have found that various medical tragedies are related to clinician burnout (Melnyk, 2017). The improvements will be realized through better time management and friendly shifts. The evidence-based practice recommends that the health of nurses should be prioritized since they spend most of their time standing. Nurses should take healthy foods to ensure they have the energy to serve the patients who rely on them daily. Therefore, evidence-based practice is essential in realizing the Quadruple Aim (D’Alleva et al., 2019). Various researchers have identified the importance of evidence-based practice thus making it a priority approach to boost healthcare, reduce cost, enhance patient experience and improve the work life of nurses.
