American Healthcare Policy Analysis

I am selecting Ochsner Healthcare Systems (www.ochsner.org) in Louisiana as the agency for particular study. The purpose will be to learn about the relationship of the organization to the health policy process and the office’s or agency’s current and likely future policy activities. Do not only study the agency website and appropriate written materials, but should also arrange to interview-by phone- someone from the agency or department. Many agencies have “Public Affairs” officers you can speak with or if you can find someone else to interview that too would be appropriate. Your local Congressional office can arrange access for you.
The paper submitted should cover the following issues:
• The mission, structure and size of the entity under study including policy process and marketplace strengths and weaknesses
• The policy issue areas of concern to the entity in order of priority
• The activities the entity engage in to influence the policy process
• Some of the entity’s current policy activities
• Other entities that are allies/coalition partners in the entity’s policy activities
• The perceived level of success achieved by the entity in the policy process including particular successes and failures
• Projected future important policy issues for the entity including both significant opportunities and threats
