Assignment: Create an Outline for Oral Speech assignment; please follow the outline format

Assignment: Create an Outline for Oral Speech assignment; please follow the outline format and example below. I have attached some info about evidence.

Here’s the topic for the outline:
Title: Moral development
Author: Lawrence Kohlberg
Steps you will explain: Explain how moral reasoning changed as people grew through Kohlberg’s moral development stages. The following stages will be listed in steps:
• Step one: Pre conventional
• Step two: Conventional
• Step three: Post conventional

THE OUTLINE:
Your outline will follow a very basic informational format. A sample outline as well as my sample grade sheet is attached to assist you as you put the information together. Explaining the sample outline:
I. ATTENTION DEVICE
(Do not start by introducing your name or topic; this is boring. Instead, use a rhetorical question, startling statement, or descriptive story to pull your audience in and make us want to hear more).
II. RELATE THE SUBJECT TO YOURSELF
(In two to three sentences, why did you pick this subject? You could have chosen anything – why this?)
III. RELATE THE SUBJECT TO THE AUDIENCE
(Why should I listen to this speech? How is it going to impact me?)
IV. INITIAL SUMMARY
(In one sentence, tell us your author, theory, and the steps you will be explaining: “Today I will be explaining Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love through intimacy, passion, and commitment.”)

I. STEP ONE: “The first step involved is …”
A.
B.
C.
D.
E.
In this section, you are going to detail for us what is going on in the first step. You are going to use at least five different forms of evidence detailed in your handouts.
II. STEP TWO: “Then next step creates…”
(five more forms of evidence)

Steps III and or IV if needed = same process

Final words: The focus statement; this is a repeat of your initial summary. ONE SENTENCE. “Today I hope you have learned the three steps of Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love through intimacy, passion, and commitment. Thank you.”

Outline Example
Intro:
Attention Device: I’m sure most of you have had those dreams where you wake up panicking because you were being chased by an insane killer….give a couple more examples of crazy dreams.
Relate the subject to yourself: I know I have woken up terrified and sometimes I have even woken up crying because of what I was dreaming about.
Relate the subject to the audience: and I am sure you have too.
Initial summary: Now I’m going to tell you about the Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory on why we dream what we dream through displacement, projection, and fulfillment of a wish.

-Statement: The first step of the theory is displacement.
Explanation: This occurs when the desire for one thing or person is symbolized by something or someone else.
Definition: You may dream this because your id is not being controlled by your super ego. Id is centered around primal impulses and desires and super ego is the censor telling you not to do something
Example: If we have a bad day at work and we come home and kick the cat, we know it is not because we are really angry with the cat.
Personal experience: I had a dream after having a day full of getting bad test grades back and that night I dreamt that I yelled at my parents just because they were asking me how I was doing.
Testimony: Freud says “Dream-displacement and dream-condensation are the two governing factors to whose activity we may in essence ascribe the form assumed by dreams”.

-Statement: The second step of the theory is projection.
Explanation: This is when your dream influences how you look at someone or a situation.
Definition: This is just like intentional orientation.
Example: This, hypothetically, is letting someone else’s opinion of an object influence your opinion of that same object.
Personal experience: I had a dream where me and my roommates got in a fight and when I woke up I was made at them even though they didn’t really fight with me.
Testimony: Freud says “A dream never tells us whether its elements are to be interpreted literally” meaning that this step is not always true.

-Statement: The third step is that dreams are the fulfillment of a wish.
Explanation: This means that you wished something would happen during the day but since it didn’t, you dream about it at night.
Example: An example is not getting to fulfill your craving for tiff’s treats, so in your dream you eat tiff’s treats.
Personal experience: I had a dream once where I won for my solo at a dance competition and that was because that day I won first runner up and I wished that I would have gotten first place.
Statistics: Statistics show that you mostly dream these kinds of dreams when you are a child.
Testimony: Freud says, “Dreams are things which get rid of (psychical) stimuli disturbing to sleep, by the method of hallucinatory satisfaction”

Closing: I have now told you about Freud’s Dream Theory and gave you three of the main steps
to understand them; displacement, projection, and fulfillment of a wish.
