“Alice Cogswell” was an intelligent young lady from “Hartford, Conn.” She was only
nine years of age in “1814” when she met her neighbour “Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet”, a
young Yale progress who, after apprenticing to be an attorney, chosen to arrive the service.
Together they significantly enhanced the survives of hard of hearing individuals in
“America.”
“Alice’s” story started in “1807” when she was two years of age. It was then that she
contracted meningitis and lost her capacity to hear and later, talk. She was nine years of age
when “Gallaudet” moved nearby and saw she wasn’t interfacing with other children. “Alice”
was a quick review and her dad was elated at the advance she was making. Albeit numerous
restorative experts of the day trusted that deafness was an emotional instability and pastors
announced that hard of hearing kids were a discipline from God, “Mason Cogswell” adored
his little girl and needed the best for her. At the time, no regular school for the hard of hearing

Notwithstanding “Alice,” there were more than forty kids in the state who were likewise hard
