Writing a research paper gives you an opportunity to explore a topic of special interest, research that topic, and organize your research findings in writing for an academic audience.

Through your preparation work, you have established an argumentative thesis statement and have planned a clear organization of your main points. Your research is complete, and the details are integrated into your writing plan. You have pulled it all together in a draft and have revised the paper’s organization, ideas, and words.

In this task, you will write the final draft of your argumentative research paper. You may use the sources and thesis from Task 1, but it is not required. Aim for a polished, error-free submission. The writing tone for your research paper should be formal and appropriate for academic writing. The information in the paper should be based on credible source material. If needed, the “Topic Ideas” web link below can be used for selecting your paper topic.

The paper must follow APA documentation guidelines and must include an APA-formatted reference list, not your annotated bibliography from Task 1. Any sources that you cite in the paper must be included in the reference list, and any source in the reference list must also be cited within your paper. Please see “Appendix B: APA Format” from the learning resource, found in the web links section below, for additional directions on creating an APA-formatted reference list.

A. Write an original and cohesive argumentative research paper (suggested length of 8–10 pages).

1. Provide an effective introduction.

2. Provide an appropriate thesis statement that previews two to four main points.

3. Develop each of the previewed main points in effective paragraphs with support from a variety of sources.

4. Provide an effective conclusion.

The argumentative research paper on organic foods versus GMOs:
Introduction

Organic foods and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are two of the most controversial topics in the food industry today. Organic foods are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, while GMOs are plants or animals that have had their DNA altered using genetic engineering techniques.

There is a lot of debate about which type of food is healthier and better for the environment. Some people believe that organic foods are more nutritious and that they are better for the environment because they are grown without the use of harmful chemicals. Others believe that GMOs are safe and that they can actually help to improve the environment by making crops more resistant to pests and diseases.

In this paper, I will argue that organic foods are the better choice for both human health and the environment. I will support my argument with evidence from scientific studies and research.
Thesis Statement

Organic foods are healthier and better for the environment than GMOs.
Main Points

Organic foods are more nutritious than GMOs.
Organic farming practices are better for the environment than conventional farming practices.

Supporting Evidence

Organic foods are more nutritious than GMOs.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that organic foods are more nutritious than conventional foods. A study published in the journal “Nutrition and Cancer” found that organic fruits and vegetables had higher levels of antioxidants than conventionally grown fruits and vegetables (Ebert, 2009). Antioxidants are important for protecting the body against damage from free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage cells and lead to diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Another study published in the journal “Food Science and Nutrition” found that organic milk had higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids than conventional milk (Dimitrova et al., 2015). Omega-3 fatty acids are important for brain development and heart health.

Organic farming practices are better for the environment than conventional farming practices.

Organic farming practices are designed to protect the environment and promote sustainability. Organic farmers do not use synthetic pesticides or herbicides, which can pollute water supplies and harm wildlife. Organic farmers also use crop rotation and other methods to improve soil health and reduce erosion.

A study published in the journal “Nature” found that organic farming can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Tilman et al., 2011). Greenhouse gases are a major contributor to climate change.

Organic foods are safer to eat than GMOs.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that GMOs are unsafe to eat. However, there is some concern that GMOs could pose a risk to human health. For example, some people worry that GMOs could cause allergic reactions or that they could transfer genes from one organism to another.

There is also some concern that GMOs could harm the environment. For example, some people worry that GMOs could cross-pollinate with non-GMO crops, which could contaminate the food supply.
Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that organic foods are the better choice for both human health and the environment. Organic foods are more nutritious than GMOs, organic farming practices are better for the environment, and organic foods are safer to eat than GMOs.
