Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory: This theory focuses on the patient’s ability to perform self-care and the role of the nurse in helping the patient achieve self-care independence.
Roy’s Adaptation Model: This theory focuses on the patient’s adaptation to stressors and the role of the nurse in facilitating adaptation.
Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory: This theory focuses on the development of nursing expertise and the progression from novice to expert.
Watson’s Caring Theory: This theory focuses on the importance of human caring in nursing practice and the role of the nurse as a caring presence.
Advanced registered nurses, such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists, often use nursing theories as a framework for their practice. They apply these theories to guide their assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, and to inform their decision-making and communication with other healthcare providers.
