Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a approach to healthcare that involves integrating the best available evidence with clinical expertise and patient values in order to make decisions about patient care. The evolution of EBP has involved a shift towards a more systematic and rigorous approach to evaluating and using research evidence in clinical practice.
Barriers to EBP can include a lack of access to research evidence, a lack of training or skills in critically appraising and applying research evidence, and resistance to change among healthcare providers. These barriers can be overcome through strategies such as providing training and resources for accessing and appraising research evidence, promoting a culture of EBP within healthcare organizations, and involving patients and other stakeholders in the decision-making process.
One compelling clinical question that piques my interest is: “What are the most effective interventions for managing chronic pain in older adults?” This question is important because chronic pain is a common and debilitating condition among older adults, and finding effective ways to manage it can improve quality of life and reduce the burden of illness. Additionally, the aging population is growing rapidly, making it important to identify interventions that are effective and appropriate for this population.
