These opportunities have not only helped increase my knowledge and exposure but also my reputation across the renowned donors. I am now in a position to identify the reality of grant writing and how one is obliged to embrace flexibility based on the underlying circumstances. With such an understanding, I am confident enough to handle any type of grant writing that requires professionalism, competence, and practical application.

In the modern period where healthcare reforms are rampant and there is limited financial support, it is imperative for DNPs to be knowledgeable about and possess grant writing skills. This is because they need to implement their innovative ideas applicable to the respective changes in clinical practice (Waxman, 2017). By having a good understanding of the grant writing approach and skills, these professionals can avoid using a significant amount of time and resources necessary to test and implement their ideas into practices. With competent grant writing skills, the DNPs can attract the required resources geared towards exploring the potential efficacy of the inevitable changes. Furthermore, they are in a position to explore the feasibility of these changes, thereby improving the efficiencies of care as well as patient outcomes across the clinical setting. The possession of grant writing skills also allows the DNPs to incorporate the opportunity for translating their knowledge and ideas into practice and the culmination of their doctoral studies. This is a crucial phase in the integrative practice experience that allows the DNPs to make meaningful contributions to the improvement of the patient outcomes and nursing practice as a whole. It also creates a reliable platform for laying the groundwork for their future scholarship.

There are numerous funding sources available for both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral studies to facilitate the implementation of innovative ideas into clinical practice, thereby improving the efficiency of care and patient outcomes. One of these funding sources is the Institutional Training Programs (32) that is promoted by the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). The NINR T32 is a program that allows institutions with schools of nursing to award individuals for their research in chronic and acute illness by focusing on disease prevention, management of symptoms, caregiving, and self-management, among others (NINR, n.d.).
