The rape of Nanking in which the Japanese royal Army massacred hundreds of thousands of young men is similar to the Holocaust in France scenario. The Japanese took advantage of trapping the china armies fighting in Shanghai and left their turf unguarded (Man, 2012). The Japanese armies tortured and raped helpless women left behind affords similar intentions to Nazi atrocities towards the Jews in Europe. The Nanking rape captures the vivid and gradual portray of physical and emotional violence of rape to the already helpless daughters and women. They had witnessed the killing of their brothers and husband in the fortified walls of Nanking province.
The method is similar to that of Nazi-occupied France, where Hitler’s armies targeted and killed young men perceived to be of military age leaving behind defenseless young women. Though the warfare tactics of rape are not evidently depicted in Europe, emotional significance is similar to the Nanking rape breakdown of families and endless mental torture. The atrocities demonstrate the apparent lack of regard for ethical war practices that the Japanese royal Army had for their captives. Furthermore, it demonstrates that this kind of brutal violence and objectification of the human body through rape is not exclusively held by the Nazi regime, as is argued by experts in the uniqueness of the Holocaust. Both illustrate the severe disregard of the captive’s emotional wellness and physical existence.
