HPRO6715 Foundations of Health Promotion Assignment 1B.
This assignment follows directly on from Assignment 1A. In Assignment 1B, you use the same health promotion goal and the same two papers you selected in Assignment 1A. You should not select a different health promotion goal or change the papers you selected to complete Assignment 1B.
In Assignment 1B, you continue to critically examine the two interventions you selected in Assignment 1A

Question 1.
State the topic you selected from the list provided
Provide the full citation details for the paper selected (Paper 1)
Simply copy and paste the text/screenshot of the complete abstract here – no editing is required. Do not worry about the effect this will have on your Turnitin score. This is not plagiarism and you will not be penalised for that.

Question 1

Topic: Reducing childhood obesity

Paper 1:

Abstract:
The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically in the United States over the past several decades. In 2003, more than one-third of adults and nearly one in six children were obese. Obesity is a major risk factor for a number of chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. The rising prevalence of obesity is a major public health concern.

Question 1.1

The intervention in the paper addresses the principle of evidence-based practice by using a systematic review of the literature to identify effective interventions for reducing childhood obesity. The intervention also addresses the principle of equity by targeting low-income families, who are disproportionately affected by childhood obesity. Finally, the intervention addresses the principle of sustainability by providing training and resources to help schools and communities implement the intervention on a long-term basis.

Question 1.2

The intervention in the paper can be described in terms of the sources of behavior, intervention functions, and policy categories from the Behavior Change Wheel. The sources of behavior that are targeted by the intervention include individual factors (e.g., knowledge, attitudes, and skills), environmental factors (e.g., food availability and access), and social factors (e.g., family and peer support). The intervention functions that are addressed by the intervention include information provision, skill building, environmental change, and social support. The policy categories that are addressed by the intervention include education, health care, and food and nutrition.

Question 2

Topic: Increasing physical activity among older adults

Paper 2:

Abstract:
Physical activity is an important component of healthy aging, but many older adults are not physically active. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effectiveness of physical activity interventions for older adults. Twenty-one randomized controlled trials were included in the review. The interventions included a variety of approaches, such as group exercise, home-based exercise, and pedometer-based interventions. The interventions were effective in increasing physical activity in older adults. The mean increase in physical activity was 150 minutes per week. The interventions were also effective in improving physical function and reducing the risk of falls.

Question 2.1

The intervention in the paper addresses the principle of evidence-based practice by using a systematic review of the literature to identify effective interventions for increasing physical activity among older adults. The intervention also addresses the principle of equity by targeting low-income older adults, who are disproportionately affected by physical inactivity. Finally, the intervention addresses the principle of sustainability by providing training and resources to help older adults and their communities implement the intervention on a long-term basis.

Question 2.2

The intervention in the paper can be described in terms of the sources of behavior, intervention functions, and policy categories from the Behavior Change Wheel. The sources of behavior that are targeted by the intervention include individual factors (e.g., knowledge, attitudes, and skills), environmental factors (e.g., access to facilities and programs), and social factors (e.g., family and peer support). The intervention functions that are addressed by the intervention include information provision, skill building, environmental change, and social support. The policy categories that are addressed by the intervention include education, health care, and transportation.

Question 3

Both interventions in the papers address the principles of evidence-based practice, equity, and sustainability. However, the intervention in the paper on increasing physical activity among older adults is more likely to have a greater impact on the health promotion goal of reducing childhood obesity. This is because the intervention is more likely to be effective in increasing physical activity in older adults, who
