This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the impacts and complexity of poverty and social exclusion.
Be able to apply the context of human services to fields of practice.
This case study assessment is an intentional learning experience that nurtures our analytical skills and grows our identity and skill as thinking professionals. It encourages us to recognise the relationship between theoretical concepts and practice. This task will allow you to elicit information about human service contexts and social inclusion and consider how they relate to addressing poverty and social exclusion. The task is purposely structured as a case study, allowing you to observe the usefulness of the micro, meso and macro framework for working with people receiving human services.

Case Study

The case study I will be discussing is the case of a single mother of two children who is living in poverty. The mother is unable to find a job that pays enough to support her family, and she is struggling to make ends meet. The children are also struggling, as they are not getting the food, clothing, and medical care that they need.

Human Service Context

The human service context that I will be discussing is a community health center. Community health centers provide a variety of services to people in need, including medical care, mental health care, and social services. The community health center that I am discussing is located in a low-income neighborhood, and it serves a large number of families who are living in poverty.

Impact of Poverty, Social Inclusion, and Social Exclusion
