HS A492 Capstone Reflection
Purpose:
This writing assignment asks you to reflect on your learning and development as a student in the BSHS program and assess your own progress on the Program Student Learning Outcomes associated with your BSHS track (Health Educator or Pre-Professional).
It is important that you address each objective thoroughly and honestly. We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement, both positive and negative. Your answers will not influence your grade in this or any other Health Science class
All capstone students’ reflections will be reviewed by a panel of BSHS faculty after the semester ends and used to improve the program in the future. Your reflections will be de-identified and shared without your name.
Instructions:
Your reflections should cover the period from when you began pursuing a BSHS degree through the present, not limited to this class only. Please consider all aspects of your classroom and community experiences during your time as a student in the BSHS program. Feel free to get creative in “curating” and demonstrating your learning and professional development as a student.
In your answer, please respond to each numbered learning objective on page 2 and 3 for your track (health educator or pre-professional tracks respectively).
Most students will need at least three pages to thoroughly address the prompts.
Prompts:
• Reflect on your learning and development as a Health Sciences student.
• How have your experiences as a student influenced your plans for the future? Your life now?
• When you think back on your time in the program, which classes were most helpful in your learning? What experiences and assignments helped you grow?
• What do you plan to do after graduating? Has the BSHS program helped prepare you for that trajectory?
• Specifically address each of PSLO (see page 2 and 3). As a soon-to-be graduate, do you feel able to do each of those things?

HEALTH EDUCATOR PROGRAM STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences on the Health Educator Track will be able to:

Students graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences on the Pre-Professional Track will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of public health and public health intervention strategies.
• Accessed existing health-related data, or
• Used health-related informational resources, or
• Explored a variety of methods and theory to deploy appropriate health education campaigns, or
• Developed an implementation plan for select health education campaign, or
• Demonstrate an understanding of primary, secondary, or tertiary levels of prevention, or
• Created resource materials for dissemination
Demonstrate adequate preparation for professional and/or graduate work in selected clinical concentration areas.
• Drafted a professional philosophy statement or
• Conducted job shadowing or informational interviews with professionals or
• Engaged in relevant professional development opportunities or
• Reflect on core health science skills alignment with preparing for Alaska health workforce needs
Explain the interconnectedness of physical, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects of health and the role of civic engagement in promoting population based health in clinical and community settings.
• Inferred needs for culturally appropriate health education from obtained data, or
• Articulated the need to include communities and organizations in program planning, or
• Identified factors that facilitate or hinder the process of health education, or
• Demonstrates selected materials are aligned with priority population learning needs

To address the first prompt, you can reflect on your overall learning and development as a Health Sciences student, including your academic achievements, experiences, and growth as a professional. Consider discussing how you have developed skills such as critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving, as well as how you have gained practical experience through internships, clinical rotations, or other opportunities.

Regarding the second prompt, you can discuss how your experiences as a student have influenced your plans for the future, both in terms of career aspirations and personal goals. For example, you may have developed a passion for a particular area of public health, or you may have discovered new interests or skills that you plan to pursue after graduation.

To address the third prompt, think about the classes, experiences, and assignments that have been most helpful in your learning and growth as a Health Sciences student. You can discuss specific examples of how these activities have helped you develop skills or knowledge relevant to your career goals.

Regarding the fourth prompt, you can discuss your post-graduation plans and how the BSHS program has prepared you for them. For example, you may have gained practical experience or skills that will help you succeed in your chosen field, or you may have developed a network of professional contacts that will be valuable in your job search.

To address the fifth prompt, you will need to specifically address each of the Health Educator or Pre-Professional Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLO) listed on page 2 and 3 of your assignment prompt. For each PSLO, you can discuss whether you feel prepared to meet that outcome as a soon-to-be graduate of the program, and provide examples of how you have developed the skills or knowledge required to meet that outcome.

In addition to reflecting on your experiences, you may want to consider including artifacts or evidence of your learning and growth as a Health Sciences student, such as papers, project ( help with nursing paper writing from experts with MSN & DNP degrees)s, or presentations that you have completed throughout your program. These can help to demonstrate your achievements and provide concrete examples of your skills and knowledge.
