Challenges faced by truck drivers in trucking industry usually do not make front page news.Hitherto, the industry gives services that are crucial to Canadians daily lives. Almost all food eaten in Canada and leisure items enjoyed and the roofs under which Canadians live at one point they were delivered by trucks.
Trucking industry is a major employer in the B.C, with almost 1.5 per cent of the B.C labor force employed as truckers. Truck drivers transport furniture, food, lumber, clothing, packages and other commodities to companies, individuals and businesses.
In British Columbia 80% of truck driver are wage earners. These truckers are either employed by company or self-employed. Employed truck drivers work for a company that assign them a truck for a given period of time.
A company may own two to hundreds of trucks depending on its size. The truck driver transport a curtain cargo as an employee of the company.
