St. Vincent de Paul observed the needs of impoverished people with disparities in access to healthcare. He ultimately dedicated his life to answering a single question: “What must be done”? How will you utilize a nursing degree obtained from DePaul University to address these disparities? (Please limit your answer to around 200 words.

As a nurse with a degree from DePaul University, I would utilize my knowledge and skills to address healthcare disparities in impoverished communities. To answer the question of “What must be done,” I would first conduct a needs assessment to identify the specific health needs of the community. This assessment would involve meeting with community members and leaders to understand their concerns and experiences with the healthcare system.

Based on the needs assessment, I would develop and implement community health programs that prioritize preventative care and education. These programs would focus on promoting healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and early detection of illnesses. I would also work to increase access to healthcare services by collaborating with local clinics and hospitals to provide free or low-cost health screenings, vaccinations, and other healthcare services.

In addition to community health programs, I would advocate for policy changes that improve healthcare access and equity. This could include supporting initiatives to expand Medicaid coverage, increase funding for community health centers, and improve healthcare infrastructure in underserved areas.

My goal as a nurse would be to use my education and training to promote health and wellbeing in underserved communities, and to work towards a healthcare system that provides equitable care for all.
