Purpose
The purpose of the study was to characterize the needs young populations suffering from Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract Malignancies. The research was designed as a cross-sectional retrospective research with a sample size of 50 participants who were eligible for the study. The participants were required to be younger than 40 years. The research collected data using a self-reporting questionnaire.
Methods
The use of a cross-sectional retrospective research design enables the researchers to meet the research objectives. The research design is informed majorly by the research objectives. Considering the wellbeing of the research participants, the methods applied would enable the participants to self-report on their unmet needs in the process of the treatment for Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract Malignancies.
While self-reporting is an efficient approach to data collection, it also raises challenges with the validation of the data. The methods section failed to demonstrate how the researcher enhanced completeness, reliability, and the validity of the data.
Measures
Focusing on the measures, the article provided a section explaining that the researchers used multiple linear regression models. The measures were found to be appropriate for the research design. Overall, the measures used for the research were found to be adequate though future research may need to apply different measures. Multiple linear regression may demonstrate the relationship between quality of life and unmet needs for the patients suffering from Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract Malignancies. However, the approach does not provide qualitative information that may be used to improve the quality of life for the patients. Future research on the same area ought to focus more on a self-reporting model that enables the patients to present their thoughts and views about the interventions, especially as they relate to unmet needs and quality of life.
