Health lnformation System Standards 2. Central Patients and Encoding Database (CPEDB) The databases for the storage of records of patients are regulated by different types of standards.
HL7’s version 2 (V2) is usually implemented as a messaging protocol that enables the exchange of clinical data between various systems. The standard is designed in a way that it supports the central patient’s system as well as the distributed environment. 3. Clinical Repository The HL7 Version 3 Clinical Document Architecture is based on XML which specifies the structure as well as the semantics of the clinical documents which are crucial for the exchange between the health providers. The clinical documents are defined by six main characteristics which include: Persistence, stewardship, context, wholeness, readability by humans, and the potential for the authentication of the system. 4. Acceptance Discharge Transfer Data ADT and EFA These are the standards that allow the exchange of information between different computer system, document architecture, and clinical templates among others. Fast Healthcare lnteroperability Resources (FHlR) is a standard that is used to define the exchange of electronic data. The standard can be used as standalone data exchange or it can be combined with other existing standards.
The Direct Project standard allows the participants to send and receive the health information which is authenticated and encrypted. The specifications for the standards are the Applicability Statement for Secure Health Transport and also the XDR and XDM used for direct messaging.
Digital lmaging and Communications in Medicine (DlCOM) is a standard that is used for communication and management of the medical imaging information and other types of data. lt facilitates the transfer of medical images in across system. High Level 7 (HL7) is the type of standard that is used as the basis of the exchange standards that are used in all the system for development and expansion of communication systems. 5.
Laboratory lnformation System (LlS) The Logical Observation ldentifiers Names and Codes (LOlC) is the standard for identifying health measurements, observations, and documents. The LOlNC codes are used in laboratory and clinical tests, in measurements as well as observations. The Unified Code of Units of Measure (UCUM) is a standard that defines the units of measurements in the laboratory. 6. Prescription Generation The prescription generation is defined by RXNorm standard which allows the naming of the clinical drugs and also links the names to different types of drug vocabularies which is mainly used in pharmacy management and interactions of the drugs.

Radiology lnformation System The RlS is guided by the RadLex standard which is a unified language used in radiology for standardization and retrieval of information that is related to radiology. Some of the common standards include the SNOMED-CT and DlCOM and it is managed by the Radiological Society of North America. 8. Human Resource Management The standards are maintained by the lnternational Labour Organization (lLO). The standards ensure that the workforce hospital data are compared over a given period of time according to lSCO-08. The standards are also used in maintaining the health workforce registry. One of the standards is the Open Health lnformation Exchange that provides the best way of storing data electronically (database) 9. Financial Management System The FMlS is controlled by two major standards which are the charts of accounts (COA) and lnternational Financial Reporting Standards (lFRS). COA tracks all the accounting transactions in the system and lFRS ensures the management conforms with the global standards accounting framework
