Ethics in Patient Care

In this week’s module you learned about “Ethics in Patient Care” and on page 263 your read about some basic ethical principals. For your first assignment I would like for you to look at the Florida Patient Bill of Rights (linked in the module materials) and identify by statute section and brief description at least one section of the Florida law that matches with the 4 basic ethical principals listed on page 263. For example: If you believe section xxx.xxx of the Florida statute covers the ethical concept of “justice” you would give me the specific statute section along with a sentence or two that describes how that section of the law addresses “justice”. You responses should be in “Word” format and should not exceed one page. Ethics in Patient Care
Ethics in patient care refers to the principles and values that guide the behavior of healthcare professionals in the delivery of care to patients. These principles include respect for autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence, justice, and confidentiality.

Respect for autonomy refers to the principle that patients have the right to make decisions about their own healthcare and to have their autonomy respected by healthcare professionals. This includes the right to be informed about treatment options and to make decisions about their care.

Non-maleficence is the principle that healthcare professionals should not cause harm to patients. This includes the obligation to do no harm and to take all necessary precautions to prevent harm to patients.

Beneficence is the principle that healthcare professionals should act in the best interests of the patient and work to promote the patient’s well-being. This includes the obligation to provide appropriate treatment and care to patients.

Justice is the principle that healthcare should be provided equitably and fairly to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay or other factors.

Confidentiality is the principle that healthcare professionals should respect the privacy of their patients and keep their personal and medical information confidential.

These principles are an important part of ethical patient care and are essential to maintaining trust and respect between healthcare professionals and patients.
