Obergefell v. Hodges was a landmark Supreme Court case that dealt with the issue of same-sex marriage. The case was brought to the Court by James Obergefell and several other plaintiffs who challenged state laws that prohibited same-sex marriage or did not recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

In a 5-4 decision, the Court ruled that state laws banning same-sex marriage and failing to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states were unconstitutional. The Court held that the 14th Amendment’s Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses guarantee the fundamental right to marry, and that this right applies equally to same-sex couples.

The ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges effectively legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states and marked a major milestone in the LGBTQ rights movement. The decision was hailed as a victory for equality and was widely celebrated by supporters of same-sex marriage. However, it also faced significant opposition from those who opposed same-sex marriage on moral or religious grounds.

this was in fact covered after years of conflict over this issue. Given what has
happened with Roe in June of 2022, can you see Constitutional protection of
