Statistical Information in Written Format

Statistical Information in Written Format
Although analyzing statistical data can be challenging, it is equally challenging to convert these data into a written format. Therefore, in this activity, you will practice the important skill of data analysis and presenting statistical information in a written format. Using the provided datasets of offenses reported, calculate the mean, median, mode, max, min, and range for each of the crimes. The list of crimes includes violent crime total, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, legacy rape, revised rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime total, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft.

Specific steps are listed below

Download 1 of the following datasets of offenses from the Uniform Crime Report:
Accomack County Sheriff’s Office
Honolulu Police Department
Los Angeles Police Department

Calculate the mean, median, mode, max, min, and range for each of the following:
Violent crime total
Murder and non-negligent manslaughter
Legacy rape
Revised rape
Robbery
Aggravated assault
Property crime total
Burglary
Larceny-theft
Motor vehicle theft
Write 1 paragraph for each of the crimes, where you present the statistical results to the reader in a written forma

Statistical Information in Written Format
Violent crime total
From the year 1985 to 2014, there have been a total of 1514701 violent crimes. The mean for these crimes amounted to 50490.03 after integrating the product of the variable with its probability. The median was at 50968 since the number of terms was even. After selecting the two terms in the middle, which were 50241 violent crimes total in the year 2000 and 51695 violent crimes total in the year 2002 the median was arrived at. Since the median is greater than the mean, it can be said that the distribution is skewed to the left. When it comes to the max and min, violent crimes total was at 89875 and 16524 respectively. The range between the min and max was a 73351 value that shows the span of the data set and can be used to compare values. One can use the range to tell which values lie on the high or lower end.

Murder and non-negligent manslaughter
When it comes to murder and non-negligent manslaughter, it is essential to note that this category falls within violent crimes. This topic (sample nursing essay examples by the best nursing assignment writing service) will assess this type of crime, specifically in a statistical description. After calculating the average of all the numbers, the mean was at 611.0667 offenses. The middle number in the group of the murder and non-negligent manslaughter ordered numbers, which is the median was at 563. This is a positive skew since the median is lower than the mean. The right tail will be longer. The max was at 1094, which was the most significant number in the dataset while the mean was at 251, which was the smallest number in the set of data. The range fell as 843, which was the difference between the highest and lowest (min and max).

Legacy rape
For legacy rape, the mean was at 1457.1724 after summing all the numbers in the dataset and dividing by the number of addends. After listing the number of crimes from least to highest, the median was at 1413. The median is lower than the mean, which means that the mass will be more concentrated to the left if a graph was drawn. The right tail will be longer making it right-skewed. The max was at 2330, which was the highest value within the dataset while the mean was at 764, which was the lowest number in the data set. When the difference between the two is calculated, it is possible to find the range. The range fell at 1566, and it gives the rough idea of the spread of data within the dataset when compared against other numbers.

Revised rape
The category of Revised Rape was introduced in 2014, and all the values fell at 1126. The mean, median, and mode were all equal, which means that there was no skewness. The distribution is, therefore, a bell-shaped normal curve.

Robbery
When the values of all the terms in the recorded robbery crimes were added and divided by the number of the terms, the mean fell at 20824.4. Since the number of terms was even the median was at 16871.5 after working the two terms in the middle. The mean was greater than the median, which showed positive skewness. The skewness is greater than zero, in this case, making it skewed to the right. The right tail will be longer. The max was at 39778 which was the highest value in the data set and was in the year 1991, while the min was at 7885 which was the lowest value in the dataset and was in the year 2013. The range was 31893, giving a rough idea of how the values are spread across the data set and can be used to determine which values are on a high or low end.

Aggravated assault
The mean was 27608.4333 after calculating the sum of the values and averaging them by the data points. The median was 31987, which was the result after averaging two data points since the values were even in number. Since the median was greater than the mean, the skewness is negative. The left tail will be longer since the skewness is greater than zero. The max was 47104, which was the highest value and occurred in the year 1991 while the min was 7624, which was the lowest point in the data set and occurred in the year 2013. The range was at 39480 after finding the difference between the minimum and the maximum. The range can be used to show the span of values within the data set and can be used to determine the values that are on the high end and those that follow on the lower end.

Property crime total
This category of crimes includes other types of crimes which are Larceny Theft, Burglary, and Motor Vehicle Theft. The total crimes are calculated from the year 1845 to 2014. The mean for all the crimes that involve property was at 158340.3667 when the sum of the values is divided by the data points. The median was 136408 after diving the sum of the numbers in 2001 and 2003 since the data had even values. The mean is greater than the median, which shows a positive skewness since the skewness is less than zero and the tail will skew to the right. The max was at 256349 which was the highest value in the dataset and occurred in the year 1991, while the min was 83139 which was the lowest number in the dataset and it occurred in the year 2014. The range was 173210, and it shows the span of values within the dataset.

Burglary
For burglary property crimes, the mean was 33504.3333 after the crimes were added and divided by the number of the terms. The median was 25534.5 after averaging the values in 2001 and 2002 since the number of terms was even. Since the mean is greater than the median, the skewness will be positive, which will result in the right tail being longer. The max number was found in the year 1964 and was 64201 which was the highest number in the dataset while the mean was found in the year 2040 and was 15070 which was the highest number in the dataset. After calculating the difference between the min and max, the range fell at 49131. It gives the rough idea of the spread of data within the dataset when compared against other numbers.

Larceny-theft
The mean for Larceny–theft was 87269.2333 after integrating the product of the variable with its probability. The median was 79667 after averaging the values in 2001 and 2002 since the terms in the dataset were even. Since the mean is greater than the median, the right tail will be longer due to positive skewness. This is because the skewness is greater than zero. The max which was the highest number, recording a 130234 number in crimes occurred in the year 1991. The min was the lowest number in the dataset, which was 53469, and it occurred in the year 2011. The range fell at 76765, giving the possible span of values within the dataset. The range helps determine which values fall on the high or low end of the dataset.

Motor vehicle theft
When the values of all the terms in the recorded robbery crimes were added and divided by the number of the terms, the mean was 37566.8. The number of crimes was listed from least to greatest, and the median was 32687 after averaging the years 19977 and 2007 since terms of the dataset were even. The median is lower than the mean, which means that the mass will be more concentrated to the left if a graph was drawn. The right tail will be longer making it right-skewed. This can also be referred to as a positive skew. The max was 68655, which was the highest value in the dataset, and it occurred in the year 1991. The min was 13788, which was the lowest value in the dataset, and it happened in the year 2014. The range was 54867, which gives the rough idea of the spread of data within the dataset when compared against other numbers.
