Black Lives Matter

African American History Final Essay
In this final assignment, students will be asked to investigate the cultural/historical continuity of the contemporary Black community, with their African/ African-American heritage. In this 5-8-page paper investigate an aspect of Black culture/activism/thought and how it connects with the history that we have studied in this course. Explore how and why elements of the community have changed over time, or why they have been preserved. In this assignment, students should engage in an original idea/commentary. While students will be required to use insight and sources from this course, this paper should not be a summary of what was previously discussed.

Students may find it helpful to prepare an abstract and outline for the topic they would like to write about which incorporates the history and themes discussed in this course. Students should also feel free to use outside sources for this assignment. Utilize scholarly resources such as JSTOR to supplement the materials that you have access to. Remember to properly and consistently cite your sources.

Racial Inequality in the United States and Black Lives Matter
#BlackLivesMatter is a movement that gained national traction in 2014, following an unprecedented increase in police brutality that resulted in the deaths of Eric Garner and Mike Brown. In both of these cases, the law enforcement officers who carried out the heinous murders were not punished in any way (Clayton, 2018). The lack of activities prompted a retort, culminating in the formation of “Black lives matter,” which advocates that the lives of black people be considered as important as those of white people.
The paper evaluates racial control mechanisms by examining the conceptual frameworks used by various authors to understand the pervasive, persistent, and disproportionate police killings of African American populations. The argument used a macro-level analysis that considers economic and dramatically racialized politics, hyper-masculinity, and negative attitudes toward black people to provide ethical restraint.
People belonging to the faction, African Americans in the United States, have been subjected to ill-treatment and lack of equality in comparison to the life and opportunities that other Caucasian people have attributed to racism throughout history. One public health scholar discovered that #Black lives matter is a system structuring assignment of value and opportunities based on race that is not only disadvantageous to black people and minorities but also reasonable to other groups.
Healthcare and medicine have become racialized, which has aided the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. According to the author (Mundt et al., 2018), the U.S. systems have been structured in such a way that white people benefit while blacks suffer. Racism has never gone away, has resulted in poor health, and is a major contributor to health crises and illness in the United States.
The paper also highlights specific general concepts and broadens the issue of inequality and racism through the use of various case studies. The analysis concludes by stating that disproportionate vigilante and police killings of Black Americans are a racial regulatory mechanism.
According to a Historian’s work (Updegrove et al., 2020), “some of the public health measures are hijacked by eugenicists.” He believes that instead of public health benefits benefiting black people, it has resulted in the creation of an environment in which people of a particular ethnic background are more vulnerable to certain illnesses.
Furthermore, there are increasing cases of mass incarceration of black populations in the modern era, which is often used to control their behavior. Many African Americans have been subjected to eugenic sterilization (Parker, et al., 2020). These people are forced to use the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter to tell their stories and receive compensation for years of oppression.
