Apple Company Organizational Analysis

Apple Company Organizational Analysis
The Vision and Mission Statement
Apple Inc. is a Fortune 500 company in part because its mission and vision statements outline strategies for dominating global markets.
Statement of Purpose
Apple’s mission statement recognizes the dynamic nature of business by saying: “deliver the greatest computing products and services in the world to academics, teachers, architects, scientists, designers, businesses, and buyers in over 140 countries.” For example, management is aware of consumer technology competition and market trends. In light of recent market turmoil, Apple’s public statements and press releases have all made reference to this corporate goal (Abdullah et al., 2022).
Statement of Vision
Apple Inc.’s stated vision is to create the best products in the world and to leave the world a better place than they found it. This is consistent with Apple’s corporate social responsibility strategy, which considers the company’s impact on the environment as well as its impact on customers (Abdullah et al., 2022).
Structure of the Organization
Apple Inc.’s ability to innovate successfully and quickly is a key factor in the company’s success in the data systems, online services, and consumer electronics industries. Apple Inc. has a clear division of labor and a functional matrix that is relatively weak. Apple’s internal organization is highly hierarchical. Steve Jobs was the company’s previous CEO. All operational strategic decisions were made solely at Jobs’ direction. However, with Tim Cook at the helm, Apple has made some minor structural changes. Departments and divisions within the company, such as the software and hardware divisions, are now communicating and working together more than ever before. Apple’s vice presidents now have more authority than they did when Jobs was in charge. This has resulted in a less rigid organizational structure, though Apple remains structured in the form of a spoke and wheel, with Tim Cook serving as the hub (Sahlman, 2022).
This organizational structure serves as the foundation for the development of divisional parts, such as Apple’s product-based segments at both the top and bottom levels of the business. Senior and vice presidents are responsible for a variety of products or outputs. The weak functional structure paints a clear picture of how Apple Inc.’s many departments collaborate. If the functional matrix is inadequate, project leaders will have little influence over the project’s direction. In comparison to its competitors, Apple’s organizational structure is led by field experts rather than general managers. It is more likely that a specialist can be trained to take on management responsibilities than the opposite. Apple’s hardware, software, and other products are all overseen by industry experts (Sahlman, 2022).
Apple’s business model has one significant flaw: it is not very adaptable. When decision-making at lower levels is hampered by a top-down structure, the organization’s ability to respond quickly to market changes and business needs suffers. In the consumer electronics industry, for example, product-based departments lack the authority to act without the approval of the CEO or another executive (Sahlman, 2022). Tim Cook, on the other hand, has made some progress by improving collaboration across divisions. We can handle more changes as a company when we all pitch in. However, Apple’s top-down organizational structure prevents rapid changes to working practices because all decisions must be approved by Tim Cook and the executive team.
The Organizational Chart

Apple’s corporate structure is described as a “functional organization.” This means that the company is now organized around functional areas rather than specific items. The items are then developed by specialists from a variety of fields (Tian et al., 2022).
Employee and Headcount Description
Apple employed approximately 154,000 people as of the end of September 2021. As the tech industry has become more competitive, companies have made significant investments in people-gathering and people-keeping. In 2022, Apple had 164,000 employees, a 6.49 percent increase from the previous year. In 2021, Apple had 154,000 employees, a 4.76 percent increase over the previous year. In 2020, Apple employed 147,000 people, a 7.3% increase from 2019. In 2019, Apple had 137,000 employees, a 3.79 percent increase over 2018.
Diversity in the Workforce
An organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion can lead to increased innovation, productivity, and resilience (DEI). It contributes to ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities in the workplace in terms of hiring, retaining, promoting, receiving equal pay, and learning new skills. According to the IT firm, women will make up 34.8% of the workforce in 2021, up 0.8% from the previous year. Female representation in senior leadership roles worldwide increased to 31.4% in 2030, up 0.4% from projections in 2020. (Ramaswamy et al., 2022).
Asians made up 27.9% of Apple’s American workforce in 2021, a 0.9% increase from the previous year. Hispanic and Latino individuals made up 14.8% of the US workforce, while people of African descent made up 9.4% of the workforce. In August 2021, Apple pledged an additional $30 million to their Racial Equity and Justice Initiative. The company has pledged $25 million by May 2022 to Help underserved communities of color in gaining access to banking services by strengthening local community banks (Ramaswamy et al., 2022).
Including Diversity in the Workforce
Workforce Diversity can be incorporated in Apple Company by emphasizing the importance of appreciating each other’s cultures through training activities and the use of cultural events. This helps employees understand the importance of understanding one another from a personal standpoint. Another method is to be deliberate in incorporating workforce diversity. Setting accountability goals and policies that guide and influence a diverse workforce can help achieve this (Liu et al., 2022).
Concepts such as leadership, management, and role theories are discussed.
If Apple’s leadership has demonstrated anything, it is that a company’s top leadership can become as synonymous with its products as the customers who purchase them. Many people associate Apple and its products with Steve Jobs, who was the company’s CEO for many years. Tim Cook, Jobs’ successor, adopts many of his predecessor’s policies and practices, but he also makes significant enough changes to develop his own leadership style. For example, both Jobs and Cook are admired for their commitment to quality. In contrast to Jobs’ reputation for innovation, leadership, and perfection, Cook’s tenure as Apple CEO has been marked by openness, collaboration, and a relaxed demeanor (Zaimy, 2022). Both aesthetics have influenced Apple’s development of game-changing products. Apple’s success can be attributed to the company’s various leaders. Despite increased competition, Apple continues to dominate the tablet and smartphone markets. The success of Apple’s stock price reflects the breadth of the company’s brand and, as a result, the quality of its management (Zaimy, 2022).
