PRESENTATION

What is required for this presentation?
o Group of 3 students
o Find a video of a child doing a routine activity (ex: play, toileting, eating, etc.)  maximum length of time of video: 3 minutes

o Observe the video through the eyes of an early childhood educator and evaluate developmental aspects (physical, emotional, social and language development)

1. Determine the kind of observation that you will use  either formal, informal or both and explain why you chose this method
– Include the advantages and disadvantages to the method that you are using

2. Determine how you will record the information (ex: sticky notes, computer/phone app, notepad, etc…) and explain why you chose this method

3. Determine what kind of observational tool you will use to record your information (ex: time sampling, event sampling, checklists or charts)
– Explain why you chose this tool
– State the advantages and disadvantages of this tool

4. Use the observational tool that you chose (ex: time sampling) and complete the record with findings from the video – you must present your observational tool with your findings to the class.
– You must include at least 5 various observations from the video

5. Evaluate the observations that are noted in your tool and explain what interpretations you can make from them
– Ex: the child is developing appropriately which is evidenced by…

Guidelines/requirements:
◦ 20% of your final grade
◦ Each student must speak for approximately 2 – 3 minutes
◦ Presentation must be 12-15 minutes long
◦ The video must be a maximum of 3 minutes long
◦ The video must be shared to the class
◦ You must have a PowerPoint presentation with the required points
◦ You must share the completed observational tool based on the video
◦ You must submit your PowerPoint presentation, video and completed observational tool.
