Write an essay that closely examines any aspect of documentary film. You should
formulate a research question on your own that could help you narrow down your
focus and guide your argument. In exploring this question, you will formulate a
thesis that should be included in a concise form in the first paragraph of the essay.
Throughout the paper you will need to take a position in order to demonstrate,
support, and clarify your argument.
I recommend you pick 1-3 films to focus on to avoid trying to cover two much. It is
acceptable to pick documentary examples from the syllabus and/or the lectures to
analyze but if you do, remember to offer an original thesis instead of just repeating
the points from the course.
You should incorporate at least 5 academic sources. Minimum 2 but maximum 3
of these should be from the syllabus, but you cannot use those texts you have cited
in your Documentary Nationalism Essay, Mini-Presentation, or Curation
Assignment. The remaining sources should also be new material not used in other
assignments. You cannot use quotes longer than 10 words in this paper, please
paraphrase instead! Furthermore, do not rely exclusively on your sources! Your
paper should demonstrate independent, original thought; it should not be a string of
quotations and/or paraphrases of what other people have said about your topic (sample nursing essay examples by the best nursing assignment writing service).
Include a properly formatted citations and bibliography (Chicago, MLA, or APA
style is acceptable). The bibliography is not included in the word count.
Be careful not to plagiarize! Even taking half sentences or a sequence of 4-5 unique
words from the readings counts as plagiarism. Make sure also to attribute specific
arguments to their author by citing their work even if you don’t quote them! Always
distinguish your voice from that of the author when summarizing his or her text.
