Hinduism Sacred Space Reflection Paper
(Mandir/ Mandira)
This paper reflects on Mandir/Mandira, a sacred space for Hindus. A common name for Mandir is the temple, which is considered as the earthly venue for Hindu goddesses and gods. Worshipers are known to respect the temples highly since they are sacred since they provide a holly venue for humans and gods. It is fascinating that most Hindu temples were built over 2,000 years (Lorenzetti, 2015). Regardless of the old age, these venues are highly maintained and decorated to facilitate worshiping for the Hindu group.
Hindu worshipers are allowed to visit the temple whenever they feel the urge to worship, give offerings or pray. Generally, Hindus are known to pray in their homes with their family, but they can access the temple at will or during ceremonies. However, there are various rules or cultural actions that must be adhered to when accessing Mandira. Firstly, shoes should be removed and left outside, instituting high respect to the venue (Long, 2018). Additionally, women must cover their heads as a respectful act. After entering, a puja ceremony must follow, which primarily involves viewing and praying to the goddess’s statue or god being honored. A priest might also be present and works as the mediator between the Hindus and the deity. Because to the priest role, flowers, incense, and fruits are offered to them; and in return, they bless the givers by marking their head with a red dot.
Collectively, Mandir is one of the most respected and highly routine religious spaces for the Hindus. Respect is adversely seen in the public’s cultural practices, whereas the systematic order of events explains the high routine. Logically, it is conclusive that the religious group seriously acknowledges Hinduism. Every rule is made known and effectively passed from one generation to the other. The current respect of the temples is a perfect example of the religious culture passing and acknowledgment.
