Chicago PD Versus Bluebloods
TOPIC
Public Safety: Compare and/or contrast two true crime/law enforcement programs in order to recommend one to a friend for a realistic and enjoyable binge (TV Shows Chicago PD / Blue Blood ) or Chicago PD / Live PD ) *******************

Write an essay in which you compare and/or contrast (i.e., pointing out similarities and/or differences). Then make a recommendation, taking into consideration personal experiences and audience needs. Also, incorporate at least one quotation in your essay from an outside source, making sure to cite the source properly within your writing as well as on a Works Cited page at the end of your essay.

Note: When writing a comparison/contrast essay, it’s easy to write an inadequate thesis that merely notes that the two things have similarities, differences, or both. Instead, your thesis must make a specific argument (i.e., express a specific opinion) about the two things you are comparing. In other words, explain why these two items are worth comparing and contrasting. Does the comparison/contrast show that the restaurants/vacation destinations/homes are both equal in quality? Or does the comparison/contrast perhaps display the benefits or shortcomings of one of the restaurants/vacation destinations/homes?

Similarities and differences between Chicago PD and Bluebloods
There is an increased fascination with crime and law tv shows. Thus, scores of movies and shows produced and aired annually as the craze for these crimes- inspired shows to continue to rise by the day as more people are binge-watch them. Most of these shows depict the lives of dirty cops and the good cops that work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, this genre is more prone to dangerous misrepresentation of crime whereby the real-world effects of fictional police procedures influence our feelings towards policing systems negatively or positively. This paper compares and contrasts two crime and law-inspired television shows, Chicago PD and Bluebloods, following a recommendation for a binge-worthy show between the two.
Chicago PD premiered in 2014; the series follows the intelligence unit of the 21st District of Chicago PD and the uniformed patrol officers in their day-to-day aspects of law enforcement. Blueblood, on the other end, premiered in 2010. Bluebloods weave together the life of Reagan’s family and how their personal and professional lives are intertwined. Frank is the police commissioner, Erin is the Helpant district attorney, Jamie the beat cop, and Danny is the detective. Since both shows are crime-inspired, they share some similarities that classify them in this genre. However, since they are written and produced by different producers, they have specific pots that distinguish one from the other. These dissimilarities make the viewers choose what they resonate with and influence their choice of a binge-worthy show among the many shows.
Herein are some of the similarities between Chicago PD and Bluebloods. Firstly, the two shows have easily digestible episodes relating to criminal justice and the fictional police procedural of law enforcement officials in their day-to-day lives to combat crimes. Secondly, both shows follow the officers’ personal lives and how their day-to-day jobs directly impact them. Another similarity between Bluebloods and Chicago PD faces intense criticism regarding the hero narrative instead of addressing the complexities such as police brutality, discrimination, and corruption in criminal justice systems.
The two shows were produced by different producers and casts and twisted their plots at different times. Firstly, In Chicago PD, police sergeant Hack is portrayed as an anti-hero, depicted by his actions and conduct; this enhances the warped views regarding the criminal justice system. This highlights the nightmare of bad cops and how their conducts affect the overall view of the criminal justice system. In contrast, Blueblood depicts the law enforcement officers as heroes who are praised as undoubtedly noble and unassailable. The show depicts law enforcement officials in a favorable light compared to what happens in the criminal justice system, discrimination, police brutality, and other forms of police misconduct. This discernment has the public view of the protagonist as glorious in their fight against the perpetrators. In this case, there is the likelihood of misrepresentation of the police force.
Secondly, another major contrast between the two shows is the leadership aspect. In Chicago PD, sergeant Hank Voight does whatever it takes to protect the people of his city, even when crossing ethical and legal lines. He works hand in hand with detective Antonio, who sometimes questions Hank’s ethical integrity. The detective being level head and more honest, put his reservations regarding his boss, sergeant Hank as he puts his best foot forward in his fight to combat Chicago’s high-profile criminal. This thus depicts the two sides of the police force and the criminal justice system. On the other hand, Frank, the police commander in Bluebloods, strives to play by the rules even when dealing with his family. He is not scared to reprimand; this is seen when his son Danny is involved in a shooting, and he pushes for investigation regarding the incident.
Finally, Chicago PD focuses on the day-to-day of different responders in the police department; Bluebloods center more on their patriarchal family of the police commissioner Frank Raegan and his family members, an NYPD sergeant, an Helpant district attorney, and one in law enforcement. The show’s plot expounds more on the generational cop’s system that is a common practice in eh New York police department. Chicago focuses more on police riveting drama as their fight to keep the city safe by combating drug trafficking organized crimes, among other heinous offenses.
Having watched both shows and being an avid lover of crime-inspired series and shows, I recommend Chicago PD. I feel like the series unmasks in a more realistic manner dedication of officials, passion for the job, or, contra wise, the sloppiness of the law enforcement officials and their departments in general. It reveals that law enforcement officials do not always have a straight moral compass. It highlights some of the real in-depth issues for essence corruption that has led to the deaths of innocent underserving civilians in the hands of police officials. This portrays the real issues that affect citizens in real-time. Bluebloods strive to portray the perfect side of law enforcement that does not exist in real life. Thus, I find Chicago PD binge-worthy.
