The Objective:
The objective of this project is to apply the system analysis and design knowledge and techniques on
real life cases.
The Deliverables
The project has three major components, the proposal, the oral presentation, and the final report.
The proposal is one page long (300 – 400 words, 12 points, Times New Roman), with general brief idea of
what do you want to do in your project. It should include all the essential purpose/background/description,
objectives, scope/goal, timelines, and deliverables (not report, video, but what kind of analysis will be
included in your project, e.g., DFD, ERD etc. (2%)
The oral presentation will be recorded via some screen capture software, e.g., loom (fully free if you use
your KPU email to register as an education account). (9%)
The final report is due on the same day as the presentation. The APA citation style is preferred; However,
any other format is accepted as long as they are correct and consistent, e.g., Chicago, IEEE. It should be
not less than 4 pages long (including figures and tables, but exclusive of appendix) depends on the nature
of the topic. (9%)
The topics
The topic of selection is fairly open. If you have applied the system analysis knowledge and skill to some
real-life cases with sufficient workload is generally accepted. Feel free to discuss it with me via email or
discussion forum on Moodle.
I would like you to focus on the current logic model mapping and improvement proposing. This is how
you do it:
1. Pick a business (small or large) and preferred the ones you are familiar.

2. Think of some current “weakness” / “problem” of the business e.g., something you may
experience inconvenient and can be improved.
3. Study and map out the current logical model using some of methods we have introduced in the
class, e.g., DFD, ERD etc.
4. Analyze the current logical model and try to identify the potential cause or related to the
weakness.
5. Propose a potential suggestion to improve the current logical mode.
Here are some of the projects my previous students had done:
• Someone did a logic mapping of the degree requirement and use BC transfer guide to check out
any alternative. They found if carefully plan summer and online courses, one can shorten the
overall study time by 2 semesters. This is not a weakness, but just an improvement or alternative.
• Someone did a store training schema and found that if you would assign a dedicated trainer that
would significantly reduce the cost of the company.
• Someone worked on Apple Inc. resource strategic plan from 2016 – 2019 and found the Apple
could not deliver innovated product because they moved from IT focus to Luxury brand and cut a
lot of good projects and disbanded a lot of good research branches. A suggestion was made to
correct the focus and was aligned with the Apple Inc. announcement perfectly later.
• Someone worked a restaurant’s floorplan and found the food order and delivery routine was
mixed and the storage location had caused a major delay in the food preparation. A new floor
plan was created using SAaD and they got a VIP discount when they presented the result to the
restaurant.
