Next, you will need to find four peer-reviewed journal articles published in 2010 or later. Each article should describe an empirical study. This means that the authors are describing findings from a new study. Review articles (those that summarize existing research on a topic) will NOT be accepted for this assignment. Make sure that each article you choose has a Method section, a Results section, and a Discussion section. Each article should correspond to one of four periods of the lifespan: (1) infancy, (2) childhood, (3) adolescence, and (4) adulthood.

You can access journal articles through MTSU’s library (https://library.mtsu.edu/home) using the “Scholarly Articles” tab or you can select “Databases A-Z,” click “P” and use “PsycINFO” or “PsycARTICLES.” Another option is to use Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/). For each search, you should use at least two search terms, which represent (1) your topic and (2) one of the four life stages (i.e., infant, child, adolescent, or adult). You may want to also include a third search term representing a domain of development that you are interested in (e.g., “physical health,” “cognitive functioning”, “and emotion regulation”). Once you have chosen your four articles, you will need to closely read the Method section of each article to answer the following questions. For question #1, you should describe what the researchers used to measure your topic (e.g., a questionnaire or some other assessment). Part 2 – Research Paper: Your final paper should include exactly 6 paragraphs (described below). There is no page length or word requirement, but each paragraph should contain at least 5 sentences. The entire paper should be double-spaced.

Your introductory paragraph should define your topic, citing at least one additional article that was not previously submitted in the first portion of the assignment. This can be a review article or an empirical study, but it must be a peer-reviewed journal article.

The body of your paper should summarize each of the four articles that you described on the APA References Worksheet. You should have one paragraph per article describing infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood – in that order. Remember to cite the relevant article in each paragraph, using APA-7 format. In each paragraph, you should briefly describe the research question/hypotheses, the population being studied (including age), the method used to answer the research question, the most important results that pertain to your topic, and what the findings mean. You should focus on implications regarding how your topic affects
development; do not discuss other findings from the study that do not involve your topic.

Next, you should have a concluding paragraph summarizing the findings. You should reflect on any similarities or differences you observed in how your topic affects development across the
lifespan. Be careful not to overgeneralize – you’re only describing one article for each life stage; do not pretend to know everything about how your topic affects development.

The final page(s) of your paper should be your list of References in APA-7 format. This includes 2the four references previously submitted, as well as any additional references cited in your paper (a minimum of 5 references total).

Important notes to consider:
• Review the feedback on Part 1 of this assignment before starting on the paper. You may need to find new articles and/or edit your reference list. Ask me if you have questions.

• This is a research paper, which means that most sentences should be describing research, not your opinion or perspective. Cite your sources throughout your paper. Since this paper requires you to reference only one article per paragraph, you should cite the source at the first mention of the article and again at the end of the paragraph
when you have finished describing the study. If you cite more than one source in a paragraph, you should use a citation in every sentence in which an article is described.

• Be careful not to plagiarize. This includes re-stating individual sentences from the article but replacing certain words with synonyms. Instead, you should summarize the relevant parts of the research studies in your own words. TurnItIn software will be used; any
instances of plagiarism will result in significant point deductions or a zero (0) grade.

• Do NOT use direct quotes in the body of your paper. You may use one (1) direct quote in the introductory paragraph, if you wish, to define your topic. Any direct quotes used in the body of your paper will result in point deductions.

• HEADS UP: It is your responsibility to make sure you have a reliable computer and Internet connection when uploading assignments. I strongly suggest saving your paper in multiple places (e.g., Dropbox, One Drive, a portable drive, etc.).
