You have been assigned as a Product Manager to lead the design of a new seal and gasket system to prevent leakage in high-pressure, deep-water oil drilling applications. This new product is considered important for the company, but it also raises concerns about product liability in the case of a major oil disaster. Given the high-risk-high-reward nature of this project, your first focus is to outline a quality plan for both the design/product development effort as well as for the ongoing production of the product once it has been designed. You have been working on the approach to managing quality to reduce the risk of product liability concerns, and you have been asked to brief management on how you intend to take address concerns.
Assignment Directions
Create a 10-slide presentation briefing that includes the following:
1. Background on design versus production quality processes and methods
2. Description of processes used to ensure that the product under development is of high quality, reliable, and meets client requirements
3. Verification and validation testing of the finished prototype design
4. Manufacturing transfer process that ensures the integrity of the design
5. Quality processes used to ensure consistent meeting of specifications in a mass-production setting
