Political Liberation
1. I believe the attack by the Shining Path was uncalled for but in the long run, I believe that the killing of the prisoners had social as well as political advantages. Socially, the group had disrupted the normal lives of Peruvians. The lawlessness that the group met on the general public thus disrupting their normal lives was not something to write home about. Politically, the President Garcıa Perez and his forces gained political mileage. Political leaders and the general public were in support of the atrocity on the group. This had political advantages since the public felt the government had finally found a solution to a crisis.
2. The total annihilation plan of the Shining Path become a self-fulfilling prophecy that advanced its cause. This group was fighting for rights such as mistreatment in jails and disappearance of persons in the country. This fight was escalated by their imprisonment. At the end of the day, I believe they won the battle because the public later realised that this group of people were not dealt with in the right way which resulted in them dying. In the long run, the won a moral war that of fair judgement and equal treatment of all citizens.
3. With the release of Shining Path Members being released from prison and them taking up government. I would expect a change in the way things were carried out in Peru. Those that were mistreated especially those that are locked out in prison would have their welfare looked into and thus they would lead a better life. If they took over power, it would be a revolution of sorts with a change of the culture whereby people would freely express themselves without fear of intimidation by the government of the day.
