Assessment Information – What you need to do

This assignment is an individual assignment.

Students must answer ONE essay question from the topics below. Students must apply their economic knowledge and Assessment using the TECHNIQUES covered within this module.

Students must submit a 1000 words essay. There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark for work exceeding the word limit by 10% or more. The word count does NOT include appendixes, tables, graphs or figures, and no Abstract section is required. Students must submit the piece of work through Turnitin before the deadline.

ANSWER ONE ESSAY-TYPE QUESTION

1. Provide a forecast of GDP growth in Europe using recent quarterly or monthly data and analyse relevant economic shocks coming from Putin’s war in Ukraine. What could be the distinctive impacts in the UK, Germany, and France? What are the policy responses in Europe, and what could be the most effective policy alternatives?
(Students must use R Studio for forecasting)

2. Review the recent economic shock in China’s real estate sector and analyse the effects on the building companies. Using different interest rates scenarios, estimate a 3-year forecast of China’s Newly Built House Prices YoY Change. Provide policy recommendations to favour the real estate sector in China.

3. The US dollar has gained value against other major currencies during the third quarter of 2022. Explain the main macroeconomic fundamentals and other key circumstances to forecast USDJPY (dollar vs Japanese Yen) and provide an economic outlook for these fundamentals. Forecast USDJPY pair using the economic fundamentals and other variables and advice on Government and Central Bank alternatives to tackle the worst currency crisis in 20 years.

4. How are countries tackling the rising energy bills for households, and how do their policies compare with the UK? from the taxpayers’ point of view, what are the cost, benefits, and net benefits of the UK limits to energy bills? (CBA Analysis)

This assignment is designed to assess the following learning outcomes:
– Examine and formulate economic constraints and modelling approaches.
– Construct real-world economic forecasts.

Assessment Details

The word count is 1000 words.

There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark for work exceeding the word limit by 10% or more.
The word limit includes tables, figures, quotations and citations, but excludes the references list and appendices.

How to Submit your Assessment

The assessment must be submitted by 10 AM on 17th November 2022. No paper copies are required. You can access the submission link through the module web.

• Your assessment will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please take care to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.
• Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files will receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accepts Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless otherwise advised by the module leader.
• All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason will be subject to the University regulations on late submissions.
o If work submitted as a reassessment of a previously failed assessment task is submitted later than the deadline the work will immediately be given a mark of zero per cent
• The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict. You will find information about applying for extensions and deferrals here.
• Students MUST keep a copy and/or an electronic file of their assignment.
• Checks will be made on your work using anti-plagiarism software and approved plagiarism checking websites.

You can expect to have feedback returned to you following the assessment board in December 2022 (for UG Programmes).
