Throughout the course of your lifetime, you will own more than one computer or computing device to meet a variety of needs including academic, personal, and professional requirements. In this paper you will explore your current computing needs within a budget. Conduct research and document your purchase.
Using a budget of $1500, research and write a paper explaining your findings and outcomes. Use the knowledge learned in this course and through your research to purchase a computer system fitting one of three scenarios: (1) small home office (2) gaming lover OR (3) college student (desktop, laptop, pc, or Mac). Decide on hardware, software applications, speed, and memory as is applicable to one of those three scenarios. A tally sheet (appendix) explaining the cost breakdown, total purchase price, and explanation of the purchased computer components is required in addition to the core of the paper (sites like Dell provide a tally in the pre-purchase process – condense to a few pages as needed). You may split the purchase across several vendors. If wants (not needs) exceed your budget, note items to be purchased at a future date at the end of your paper.
Papers must be in APA format with a maximum of 10-12 paragraphs (Optional abstract, Intro, Body, and Conclusion – ~three core pages at ~1000-1500 words). See attached sample outline for a suggested layout that will help you get started. Appendix items should be no more than two-three pages each and do not count towards required number of words/paragraphs (title, abstract, and references will not count towards required words).

One needs different computer or computing devices in the course of their personal, academic and professional life to meet their different needs. In the purchase of the computer and computing devices, one makes consideration of their budget and computing needs. The priorities in the computing needs must be given to ensure that one operates within the budget and they are in a position to cater to meet the basic needs. In this regard, one must research to determine the cost of a computer and other computing devices and relate it to their budget. The approach ensures that one is in a position to fulfill all or most of their computing needs with their existing budget.
College student
In the case of a college student, they will consider the computer and computing devices that will address their schooling and learning needs compared to their budget of $1500. In this case, the best computer to serve the academic needs of the student is the Dell XPS 13 (Huang and Cheng, 2018). The cost of the computer and other computing components needed by the student stands at $1585.23 while the student budget stands at $1585.23. The totals of devices needed by the student show that the actual budget exceeds the expected budget by $85.23. Therefore, the student will have to forego a device or devices to be within their budget. The decision of the device or devices to forego and buy later will be dependent on the urgency and priority. In this case, the student will forego the graphic card that goes for $344.99 meaning that the total of the computer and computer component will stand at $1,240.24. The $1240.24 is perfectly within the budget. The graphic card is not a basic need as the student can work and operate the computer without necessarily requiring it and thus it can be procured at a later date.
Equally important, the purchase of the computer needs to be conducted under a pre-purchase plan. The pre-purchase involves the interaction between the behavioral actions and environmental factors to enhance the making of a decision on purchasing a product (Detlor, Sproule and Gupta, 2003). In this regard, the student will gather information on the product brands, product variations, and product quality and product alternatives to enhance the decision making on the product to buy. The student will then evaluate their needs and budget concerning the different product information. This process will enable him to make an informed decision on the computer or the computer products to settle on.
Conclusion
The student has identified one computer and other computing components to help him in his learning process and will evaluate the different devices based on need, priority, and budget. Upon identifying the computer and the different computing devices their total cost goes beyond the targeted budget. The student needs to eliminate some of the products from the shopping list to ensure they operate within the budget and have acquired the basic devices to enhance effective learning. The tally sheet enables the student to have a clear understanding of the product they are to purchase and thus can make effective decision making based on their budget. The products that are not purchased can be purchased later.
