Overview

Like all of the assignments in this course, this one requires you to apply what you have learned in the textbook. In the essay assignment, you will find works of art that exhibit specific visual elements and principles of design and explain how these are visible in the work.

Be sure to use as many relevant terms and concepts from this module’s list and prior lists as possible. Your goal is to demonstrate mastery of the module and course content.

Instructions

For this assignment, you will use the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and find at least five artworks that demonstrate the media, visual elements, and principles of design listed in the checklists below. The works must be two-dimensional art (all flat, no sculpture or other types of three-dimensional art).

You will also explain the medium and where each of the required visual elements and principles of design are visible in the artwork, making sure to use terms and concepts from the list for this module and prior ones.

Ideally, an individual work will contain at least two separate the visual elements and principles of design from the checklist. For example, you may find a watercolor with pencil lines and bleed that uses implied space using foreshortening and visual unity and variety.

This means that you need to look carefully and analyze the museum works for multiple characteristics (medium, visual elements, principles of design). If you choose to have a separate work to illustrate each single item from the checklist, it will take a long time.

Check the full assignment guidelines (criteria) /assignment template attached. Each of the 5 artworks should be analyzed in a minimum of 200 words. Also ensure to adhere to all the provided instructions/guidelines.

3. Choose works that have the required medium, visual element(s), and principle(s) of design from the checklist.
4. Paste your photographs into the spaces provided. Resize, if necessary.
5. If you need more than five artworks to complete the required checklist, add them below, providing the photograph and the written answer stems.
6. Compose your written answers in a university-level, professional writing style. Explain clearly what the required medium is and how it is visible. Then explain clearly and in great detail how the required visual elements and principles of design are used and where they are visible in the work. This is the evidence for each answer.
