Part 1
Healthcare administrators are one of the most important instrument within the medical arena. Summarily, they work behind the scenes so to ensure that any healthcare systems can run smoothly. It remains to be one of the most lucrative sector and one that offers an irrevocably essential service to the general healthcare system unit. My two main areas of preference within the healthcare administration sector that I would like to pursue as career options include: a career as a Health Informatics Specialists, and as an alternative to this field, I would also like to pursue a career as a Clinical Data Managers as my next best option. Finally, being an entry level management position within the healthcare industry, I would like to emphasize that there is immense opportunity for growth within these two job positions, and below are some of the more essential aspects about the two positions that I believe attracted me the most.
With the development of technology, information systems have become even more important in the context of healthcare as they allow for easier management and access of information central to disease identification, treatment and management of patients. Within any healthcare system, there has manifested a gap between the medical practitioners, the clerical staff whose work is centered on management of information, and in the recent decades IT department has been tasked with closing these gaps for seamless operation between all departments. As a Health Informatics Specialist, I could work in literally all healthcare setting since healthcare information are generated from virtually all sectors of the healthcare industry (e.g., hospital, retirement home, insurance company). My job would by and large involves management communication and access to information within the healthcare system and for these I my job will be centered on the management of electronic medical records (EMRs). Keyhani et al (2008) emphasizes that the greater adoption of EMRs has in turn realized quality and better healthcare service provision. Summarily, I will be required to apply my knowledge of nursing and informatics to Help in the design, development and regular modification and maintenance of computerized healthcare system that supports day to day operations within the hospital.
My duties as a Health Informatic Specialist may include education of the staff and provision of Helpance in problem solving and improving of the healthcare system central to operations within the hospital. Additionally to this, I will also be tasked with creation of a budget and tracking the implementation of the budget, making sure that all records central to patient treatment and healthcare functionalities are accessible and above all monitoring systems to ensure all personnel comply with regulatory requirements and adhere to patient privacy needs. To be successful in this position, I would be required to possess computer and customer care competencies. I am also required to posses the ability for adequate oral and written expression and comprehension in the medical and dentistry field as well as in English and/or Spanish. For this But the most important requirement for a starting position in this job would be a Bachelor’s degree in any computer related fields. Certification in computer systems analysis, networking, IT and telecommunication would be an added advantage. For all these the typical salary for persons in this position range from $56,510 to around $152,060. The median salary nationwide stands at $93,000 and majority of the people employed in this position (aproxximately 46%) usually posses a bachelor’s degree only.
The next best choice as a career is a position as a Clinical Data Manager. The job is also referred to as Clinical Data Management Associate Director (CDM Associate Director), Clinical Data Management Director (CDM Management Director). In this position, I will be required to create databases used to store electronic data, evaluate data quality, prepare for data analysis, develop procedures for data management and access, and finally analyze data to evaluate operational costs and problems. For this I am required to possess education qualifications with a background in Data Science and Mathematical Science options. Majority of the people in this position usually possess a BSc. Data Science and Business Analytics, a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Development with Big Data and Analytics Specialization is also recommended. A background in clinical practice is a recommended qualification within their position. Additionally, people in this position have immense knowledge in customer and personnel service management. Their wide breadth of their responsibilities becomes critical in determining their pay which is usually between $92,000 and $137,000. Clinical Data Managers on average require more than a bachelor’s degree to be able to perform their duties well. 14% of all clinical data managers have a doctorate degree while 36% and 38% respectively have masters and bachelor’s degrees.
Part 2
Some of the three job titles that I could be able to perform with my current qualifications include a position as a Medical Representative PSR, or a position as an Early Data Scientist/ analyst/ statistical analyst and finally a position as Patient Service Representative. A job as a Medical Representative PSR works to promote and sell a pharmaceutical companies’ product including drugs and medical equipment. Customers can include doctors, nurses and pharmacists. A position as a Patient Service Representative are also referred to as patient advocates and patient access specialists or service coordinators within the healthcare facility. Their primary responsibilities requires them to understand what a patient need by interviewing and listening to the and recording the data electronically. They are also required to greet the patient and direct them to their right specialists, schedule appointments, make reminder calls, inform patients about delays and waiting times and acquire patient addresses, details and contact information as well as insurance information and medical histories. As such their jobs takes an important focus on patient privacy and adequate electronic medical record management.
The main duties for the Medical Rep PSR include provision of awareness into a pharmaceutical product, answering queries concerning a product or service, provision of advice and introduction of new products to customers. Knowledge on the products is paramount, additionally, one is required to have contract negotiation skills. Some of the more common duties include organization of appointments and meeting with the hospital based healthcare staff, identifying and establishing new opportunities, presenting products to the customers, undertaking research into customer’s needs, managing budgets among others and finally reviewing sales performances. Majority of the job require adequate skills in research. Streckeisen (2021) points out that research is very important in most medical fields as it allows holistic awareness into a field of study to be able to provide adequate outlook into problem solution. Early Data Scientists responsibilities are much complex than the previous two jobs. The responsibilities of a data scientist in this position include data science analysis, building and managing dashboards, machine learning, data visualization and minor data project management.
Currently, I posses limited working experiences needed for the Early Data Scientists, but I could adequately fit into the position of a Medical Representative PSR as well as the Patient Service Representative jobs. New recruits into the Medical Representative PSR and Patient Service Rep are usually placed on a six and four month training to allow them to learn the industry regulations, as well as requirements. CurrentlyI have strong intercommunication skills, commercial awareness, adequate research skills, and good organization skills, as well as considerable level of education to allow me to fit into the Medical Rep PSR job as well as the Patient Service Rep jobs. Basic computer familiarity is of importance for all the three options. For the Early Data Scientist position, I am required to have a mastery of at least three critical programming language eg python Plink or Java. I have an adequate understanding on Java. Candidates are also required to possess an undergraduate degree in data science or a computer related course which I am currently studying. My written and oral skills while adequate need additional practice so as to be able to improve my intercommunication skills.

The hospital is ranked as one of the best within the country, and currently ranks number seven on the Honor Roll. It services the huge Los Angeles and California population, with at least 12 adult specialities. It also has 10 adult procedure and conditions centers and one of the best medical and surgical facilities. This implies that it is a very huge and complex facility as such, a great place that I could learn and expand my practice and manifest my career goals. My communication skills, interest within computer sciences and generally better commercial awareness situates me adequately within this position.
