(2018), include eating complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat and avoiding processed carbohydrates such as pastries and white bread. Hypoglycemia, which occurs when blood glucose levels are low, is one of the short-term complications. A hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome, which occurs when blood sugar levels are extremely high, is another short-term effect (Dyson et al., 2018). Long-term consequences include macrovascular complications such as partial vision loss, kidney problems, nerve damage, heart attack, and stroke (Reusch & Manson, 2017). High blood sugar levels, for example, can cause cataracts or retinopathy, resulting in partial blindness.
