This week, develop a two-part Power Point to discuss:

Part 1:

Peplau was the first nursing theorist to recognize the importance of the nurse–patient connection. Peplau valued information, thinking that a nurse must be well-versed in potential issues that may arise during nurse–patient interactions. Peplau’s theoretical work on the nurse–patient connection is still relevant today.

Discuss Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory. Identify and describe the three parts. Incorporate Orem’s idea into a present nursing practice. Cite at least one research source to back up your practice example. 3 external references and the textbook should be included. Title and reference slides should be 14-20 slides.

Proofread your work. Dependence on your computer’s spell- and grammar-checker implies a lack of effort on your behalf, and your grade will suffer accordingly. Mispelled words and grammatical errors will be fined. Before submitting your paper, read it aloud and in silence, making any required adjustments. It helps to have a buddy proofread your writing for obvious mistakes. Handwritten corrections beat uncorrected errors.

Use a 10-12 point typeface (10-12 characters per inch). Smaller type, narrow margins, and single-spaced articles are difficult to read. It is best to let your essay go above the recommended page count than to attempt and squeeze it in.

Increased leading (space between lines), kerning (space between letters) and any other such attempts to “padding” a paper are improper, waste trees, and will not trick your professor.

The paper must be double-spaced with a one-inch margin on all sides. If submitting a hard copy, utilize white paper and dark ink. Reading your essay will make it difficult to follow your reasoning.

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTIONS

Discussion Points (DQ)

Initial DQ submissions should address all aspects of the questions, contain one scholarly source, and be 250 words or less.

Sufficiently developed ideas and at least one scholarly source are required for successful responses.

Responses of one or two sentences, simple agreement or “good post,” and off-topic (sample nursing essay examples by the best nursing assignment writing service) responses will not count as substantive. Responses should be at least 150 words long.

Weekly Engagement

Your initial responses to the obligatory DQ are not included in your participation grade.

Your weekly participation includes watching the weekly announcement and commenting on it. These reminders are meant to make sure you know what’s due each day.

APA Style and Writing

Learn and practice the APA format. It is utilized for most degree writing tasks. For APA paper templates, citation examples, and recommendations, visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center in LoudCloud. Points will be reduced for bad APA formatting or lack thereof (if required).

Cite all sources! Remember to cite sources. Paraphrasing necessitates citing.

Direct Quotes

I penalize overuse of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters level.

It is crucial for Masters students to be able to critically assess and interpret information from journals and other sources. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.

APA Format and Writing Quality

Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.

Use of Direct Quotes

I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.

Late Policy

The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.
