The common denominator to success and life balance is a positive attitude.

Did you know that it takes the same amount of energy to formulate a positive thought as it does a negative one? Positive thinking is ultimately about structuring your belief system; that is, substituting positive images for negative ones. It is the process of consciously filtering out unhealthy thoughts and cleansing the mind.

For this week’s discussion, I chose a quote by Albert Einstein: “Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character”. This quote is important to me because it represents what I believe in. To me, this quote means that having a poor attitude and not being able to control your emotions can reflect the type of person that you are. It is almost like a mirror effect. The way one feels on the inside will show reflection on that person’s character on the outside. For example, I prioritize feeling good on the inside so that I can reflect on the outside and be the best version of myself to emit positive character traits. When facing a challenge as I accomplish my academic goals, this quote could help motivate me by reminding me to always be a good person no matter what and that who we are on the inside is a reflection of who we are on the outside. If I’m having a bad day at work and encounter a difficult patient, the easy thing to do is to act out of character and get even with them. However, I choose to be mindful of my attitude and react with kindness instead because I will not let situations like those make me act out of my character. One way this quote can change and influence my attitude is to remind me to always be a good person no matter how someone else is acting toward me. It reminds me that people who feel strongly about certain things and let their anger out on someone only because they have problems within themselves and allow themselves to project those feelings onto other people. This quote is a good daily reminder to not do that.
