Nurses play an important role in healthcare

Responses 1&2 to 6050 dq2

As a strategic way of participating in decision and policymaking, nurses can take on leadership roles in state and national legislatures or join hospital boards. Today, only 5% of nurses serve on hospital boards, and less than 1% serve on national and state legislative bodies (Houskova, 2018). If nurses gain access to key decision-making platforms, they can advocate for a variety of policies affecting health and patient welfare. They can, for example, influence social and public policy in order to reduce poverty and promote child welfare. Nonetheless, nurses can learn to be more fluent or effective legislators (Houskova, 2018). The presence of nurses on boards and in state/national legislatures, for example, can raise their political awareness. They can also improve their advocacy skills and empower others who are unaware of policy development.
The difficulty with nursing politics is that results do not appear immediately. The policymaking process is complex, time-consuming, and dynamic. A nurse, for example, must meet with interest groups, private citizens, and other elected politicians to explain why a particular policy is urgent and, in doing so, gain people who can support that policy in Congress or state legislatures (Milstead, 2014). Another challenge is that policymaking necessitates perseverance and full-time commitment. Closely related, the majority of nurses who pursue political careers have natural talent. Most have excellent communication, informational, assertiveness, role-playing, and other public skills, for example. Most nurses lack such skills and a personal desire to address public issues. Nurses can overcome these obstacles by learning or receiving mentoring. They can be coached or taught to think creatively about problems or issues by established or retired policymakers (Edmunds, 2011). Nurses can also collaborate with other professionals to develop and promote policy ideas.
Communicating policymaking opportunities to nurses can encourage them to participate in policymaking. Reaching out to nurses through local chapters, organizations, and websites can help them hear and understand critical nursing issues that should be raised as policies. Encouraging nurses to participate in local decision-making at the state or county level can also help them develop the skills needed to become experienced policymakers at the federal level. Finally, nurses should begin to practice being policymakers in their daily roles or work (Houskova, 2018). They should learn to communicate effectively among themselves, resolve conflicts, and work well with a variety of professionals.

Nurses play an important role in healthcare. Through research, they promote evidence-based care and identify procedural improvements through lobbying and advocacy. Nurses’ roles have expanded beyond hospitals to include Capitol Hill. Policy changes are influenced by nurses (Laureate Education, 2018). They improve patient care, patient safety, and provide excellent care by influencing policies (Milstead et al 2019). The United States has over 4 million nurses. We would use our voices to influence health policy and to advocate for our patients and their care. Many nursing organizations promote policy standardization among nurses. In its “essential” “materials,” the American Association of Colleges of Nursing recognizes nursing’s role in policy and defines expected policy engagement ( Burke, 2016). The ANA and NLO expect nurses to participate in policy discussions as part of their job (Burke, 2016). Participation in state and federal politics is encouraged by joining a professional nursing organization. These organizations can lobby Congress on nursing issues (Brokaw, 2016). Nurses can also write to and contact their legislators about healthcare issues in order to persuade them to support and advocate for the act. The involvement of the media raises public awareness, which influences political agendas ( Laureate Education, 2018). RNs and APRNs can effectively participate in policy by joining forums and policy debates and making their voices heard through tools such as social media.
The difficulties that RNs and APRNs face when making advocacy decisions.
Nurses are viewed as powerful decision makers and money makers, but they are not prominent in healthcare policy making, and they lack a unified voice when discussing national issues. This belief prevents nurses from assuming leadership roles that would allow them to influence health policies and reforms. 2014, Florida Center for Nursing Despite being the most trusted profession, nurses are less visible in the media, public policy, and politics than doctors. They are disinterested due to a lack of education about the impact of policymaking. The first challenge may be the low participation of nurses in professional organizations, which is likely due to the fees charged by such organizations. To prevent this, nurses must be educated from the start of their nursing education on the importance of joining professional organizations in order to have their voices heard. Because RNs and APRNs are well versed in policy development, they should be more involved in policy making processes and fight for their rights and the rights of their patients. By nurses uniting, collaborating, and speaking with one voice, we will be able to change health policies by contributing to health policy planning and decisions. Nurses have shaped public health and nursing policies since Florence Nightingale’s time, and current nurses should be encouraged to do the same.

, “The two strategies I chose to highlight my professional or academic goals were to create an online platform and to have a notebook portfolio.” To begin, I must document all of my classes in order to complete them. Next, I’d need to write a synopsis of each assignment and discussion that was submitted; I’d need to review these submissions so that I could write what I felt, what it took to complete the assignment, and comments from my instructor. I’ll need to hire a professional photographer and use my online footprint because 60% of employers conduct an online search, and I want to make sure mine is professional. 2017 (Hannans & Olivo) Furthermore, it will provide my future employer with an idea of who they are getting. Professional portfolios can be used to showcase your abilities, accomplishments, and knowledge. Casey and Egan (2013) My goal is to write down what Walden University expects in the ePortfolio so that I can demonstrate my skills, path to higher education, and accomplishments since finishing my BSN. A portfolio can be used to promote oneself. As a seasoned nurse, I need Helpance in patting myself on the back, but this process will recognize my efforts. (Burns, 2018).
