-SAMPLE ANSWER-
The CST principles of human dignity and the common good balance the importance of individual persons with the importance of communities. Human dignity, as outlined in CST, holds that every person has inherent value and is deserving of respect, regardless of their social status or circumstances. This principle emphasizes the importance of the individual person and their unique value. On the other hand, the common good principle highlights the importance of community and the well-being of society as a whole. This principle emphasizes the importance of working towards the well-being of all members of society, rather than just focusing on individual interests. Together, these principles balance the importance of the individual person with the importance of the community by recognizing the value of both and promoting the well-being of both.

The CST principles of human dignity and the common good support and inform each other. Lisa Sowle Cahill notes in “Catholic Social Teaching” that these principles are “interrelated and mutually reinforcing”. Human dignity, by recognizing the inherent value of every person, sets the foundation for promoting the common good. Without recognizing the inherent value of every person, it would be difficult to justify working towards the well-being of all members of society. Additionally, promoting the common good, by striving for the well-being of all members of society, ensures that the basic needs and rights of each individual are met, thus upholding human dignity.

The CST principles of human dignity and the common good are relevant to key themes or ideas in my course of study, which is a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and International Relations. In my studies, I have learned about the importance of human rights and the protection of those rights in both domestic and international contexts. These ideas align with the CST principle of human dignity, as they recognize the inherent value and rights of every person. Additionally, in the course of my studies, I have also learned about the importance of promoting peace and stability in international relations. These ideas align with the CST principle of the common good, as they strive for the well-being and safety of all members of society.

The CST principles of preferential option for the poor and promotion of peace are relevant to key themes or ideas in my course of study. I have learned about the importance of addressing poverty and inequality in domestic and international contexts, which aligns with the CST principle of preferential option for the poor. This principle emphasizes the importance of working to improve the lives of those who are marginalized and living in poverty. Additionally, I have also learned about the importance of addressing conflicts and promoting peace in international relations, which aligns with the CST principle of promotion of peace. This principle emphasizes the importance of working towards peace and nonviolence, instead of resorting to war and violence.
