Healthcare workers have an important role to play in the public arena. One of the duties of the healthcare workers to lessen the burden of cardiovascular disease is educating the patients and the public (Treskes et al., 2018). The major cause of the cardiovascular disease is lifestyle decisions. For instance, lack of exercise can put an individual at risk of excess weight, blood pressure, and heart diseases. Health administrators can encourage the patients and the public to engrain regular exercise in their lifestyle (Treskes et al., 2018). The education should comprise eating behaviors that include vegetables, drinking sufficient water, reducing salt intake, and eating a balanced diet.
Educating patients is a way of engaging patients to empower them for positive outcomes. Changing lifestyles can lessen the burden of cardiovascular diseases in the healthcare sector (Hoerger et al., 2017). The cardiovascular complication is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Educating the patients will reduce the occurrence of the disease through prevention strategies, reducing the severity of the health outcomes, and lowering the death rate (Hoerger et al., 2017). Healthcare workers have done little to counter the rising burden of cardiovascular diseases.
Educating the patients is a biblical principle and responsibility of the healthcare administrators. The bible in Proverbs 16:16 says that wisdom and understanding are better than silver or gold (Ogorek & Isaacson, 2021). The knowledge can save the life of an individual and reduce the risk of hospitalizations. For example, obese people are likely to end up in the hospital due to diabetes or cardiovascular complications. Educating the public is a proactive approach to reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases (Ogorek & Isaacson, 2021). The healthcare administrators should do more to pass the knowledge and understanding about the causes, risk factors, symptoms, prevention, and treatment strategies for cardiovascular diseases.
