In double-spaced text, please summarize and analyze the article through the following format:

Paragraph One: (6-8 Sentences)

· Introduces the topic of technology, providing the audience with context

· Must introduce the article and author, providing brief biographical information from your notes [no outside sources are permitted]

· Must include (in your own words) the author’s thesis

· Must include your own thesis statement (the final sentence) in which you express your agreement/disagreement with the author’s claims and indicate why [i.e. your reason]

Paragraph Two: (8+ sentences)

· Summarizes the article’s key points

· Does not include any critiques or personal commentary

· Does not include any direct quotations

· Is written solely in the third person

· Includes an in-text citation at the conclusion of the summary

Paragraph Three: (8+ sentences)

· Provides analysis of the author’s assumptions, biases, application of reason/logic, tone, word choice, and/or purpose

· Offers your own perspective on the article and whether you agree/disagree with the author’s claims.

· Articulates why you hold your position and why your agreement or disagreement is relevant to understanding the author’s meaning / purpose

· Includes a minimum of one (1) direct quotation (with MLA 8 in-text citation) from the article which serves as evidence

· Elaborates on your position by using examples from personal experiences/insights

· Concludes with a minimum of one (1) sentence that allows for future contemplation

· You are responsible for creating a work cited entry based upon our discussion of MLA 8 entries of a selected work from an anthology. Use your notes and the template provided on page 449 in Rules for Writers

· No outside sources are permitted. Essays which include material other than the assigned reading cannot receive a score higher than “D”.

· Essays not reaching two complete pages in length (excluding the work cited page) cannot receive a score higher than “D”.

· Essays not following MLA 8 formatting cannot receive a score higher than “D”.
