Using microscopy and biochemical tests, the unknown bacteria isolated from a mixed broth culture will be identified based on their cell wall characteristics as well as metabolic and nutritional properties such as the presence of metabolic enzymes like catalase and oxidase, or ability to ferment mannitol or lactose. I previously observed Gram positive and Gram negative cells in my sample, so I will identify a bacteria of each type using follow-up biochemical tests.
