One of the Congressional investigations that Neal Eggleston took part in was the Iran-Contra Affair. This was a political scandal that took place in Reagan Administration. As such, senior administration employees had secretly aided in the sale of firearms to Iran. The administration wanted to use the arms sale’s proceeds to fund the Contras in Nicaragua. Another investigation he participated in is the Clinton’s Whitewater real estate transactions. This was a real estate controversy scandal involving President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary plus their associates. It was an unsuccessful venture into a land development undertaking referred to as Whitewater. Eggleston was also involved in the investigations that looked into the dismissal of US attorneys in the Bush administration. The department of justice had ordered for 7 US attorneys to be dismissed, and the investigations sought to establish of this department and the White House were utilizing the US Attorney positions to obtain political advantage.

I believe that Congressional oversight is not too political. In essence, the nature of the Congressional oversight is to oversee the conduct of the executive which obviously comprises of individuals that belong to different political parties. Therefore, the issue of politics from either parties (republicans or democrats) will always be inevitable. Thinking about this question, I am more inclined to agree with Neil as he highlights the inevitability of involvement of politics in this oversight role.
