The differences between experimental and non-experimental research
The experimental type of research involves variable manipulation as well as assigning conditions to participants. They also include an experimental group and a control group used to measure different parameters under study. On the other hand, non-experimental research is either correlational or descriptive. As such, contrary to experimental research, one cannot make conclusions from it.
Differentiate between a correlational study and an experimental study.
Both experimental and correlational are essential scientific methods. However, correlation research involves observing variables and determining how they relate to one another or with a set parameter. On the other hand, an experimental study involves an analysis of the independent and dependent variables. Also, the types of conclusions are different in the two studies primarily due to the difference in the study approach.
Hypothesis being tested
The study hypothesized that the mean oxy-hemoglobin changes in the frontotemporal cortex are greater in healthy controls (Husain et al., 2021), followed by individuals with bipolar disorder, and lowest in individuals with a borderline personality disorder.
Major variables
Major variables in the study include bipolar disorder (BD) and Borderline personality disorder (BPD), oxyhemoglobin, and deoxyhemoglobin (Husain et al., 2021). Dependent variables are changes in hemoglobin, and independent variables are bipolar disorders and borderline personality disorders.
Methods and Results of the Study
The research was a qualitative study using a correlational design. The study results stated that there were no differences in the diagnosis groups in any behavioral, clinical, or demographic variables (Husain et al., 2021). Except for HAM-D and GAF scores. Also, the means oxy-hemoglobin during the pre-task baseline period was lower than that during the actual task period.
This research is a correlational study because it involves observations of different variables to determine how they relate to one another.
