Methodologies, methods and ethical considerations for researching the responsibilities of fathers in post-divorce situations.
Introduction
Despite the many years’ researchers have put into the study of fatherhood post-divorce situations. Many political variations still arise whenever these topics come to play. Researchers tend to believe that understanding men in general and the masculinity concept goes a long way in providing a clear understanding of men when it comes to parenting or rather a fatherhood. With this in mind, studies show that this understanding of men remains limited. An example of the substantial gaps in experiences in our knowledge of fatherhood is seen in the fact that insight on the empirical issues faced, but working fathers remains unknown. It is a common understanding that fatherhood is seen as a practice and not an identity. These assumptions, when placed on social concepts, often bring about controversial ideas, and they are always contradictory depending on the situation. To this extent, it is very clear that more research needs to be conducted to chart how fathers and men in general are perceived (Fleming & Zegwaard 2018). This studies should also find ways to recognise fatherhood and normalise it, especially in roles involving single parent fathers and divorced parents. This Methodologies, methods, and ethical considerations research proposal aims to develop and contribute to the growth of sociology in relevance to family practice, especially in divorced fathers, while simultaneously providing helpful insight from renowned writers on the topic, such as Simone Duncan Carol smart.
These writers have fought to educate and ground people on family life, parenting and most importantly, the social, frameworks involved. Consequently, this research also emphasises the complex or, more often than not, moral dilemmas involved in family life makings while also offering a constructing and more productive approach to divorce situations. The suggestion that divorced parents, especially fathers, are not socially able to parent while maintaining a professional career brings to play the societal norms placed on genders and their roles (Fleming & Zegwaard 2018). This study endeavours to clarify and prove the responsibilities divorced or separated fathers have regarding the physical care of their children.
Philosophical assumptions
Whether we believe it, or not everyone brings about different philosophical assumption to a given study. The protection of human issues through the application of appropriate ethical consideration is important in all research study. For a qualitative study, ethical considerations in fatherhood have been known to bring about great significance in there in the depth of a proposed study (Wilson, 1977). Existing guidance for that allows creative and better qualitative research more often than not only provide the at most general research rather than providing detailed ways it may be applied in given scenarios or rather practices. For instance when interviewing vulnerable women. More often than not, these particular issues tend to arise and create chaos and uncomfortable feelings (Fleming & Zegwaard 2018). This essay will highlight my experiences while conducting 16 face to face interviews with women and professionals concerning divorced parents especially men’s approach towards physical care after divorce. Throughout this essay consideration for ethical issues remain immense to maintain a respectable as well as the ethical balance between potential risks of the research and the likely benefits that result from knowledge the research put into play.
Research Questions:
In light of the discussed topic, my work aims to address commonly asked question in relevance to the chosen topic while also immensely finding ways to contribute to accurately documenting new found information. For instance, imparting reasons on what families do and how they do things. This essay entails broadly organized questions and answers concerning fatherhood post-divorce situations:
Fathering work:
How do fathers’ describe their experience in relevance to being full-time fathers post their divorce situations? What aspect of their relationships with their children change and how fast did they adjust to these changes? What aspect of fatherhood brought about greater satisfaction and which parts were frustrating and disheartening? How does fatherhood after divorce compare to fatherhood before the separation and what were the most significant changes experienced? What does being a divorced father entail and how does it affect their career and general life? The questions involved an engagement and Assessment or provided current research on fatherhood post and before divorce (Fleming & Zegwaard 2018).
2. Role adaption/perception:
How to fathers generally manage and negotiate the work of parenting post-divorce or separation? How do fathers negotiate their involvement or lack thereof involvement post-divorce and what factors contribute to their decision in the involvement? Do what extent do fathers have to adjust to fully get into their newly changed situations? To what extent does fatherhood change their personalities and views on things like morality? How difficult is it to navigate other aspects of their personal lives post-divorce as hands-on fathers? All these questions involve the application of both theoretical and moral philosophical literature on the reversal of gender roles.
3. Orientation to Paid Employment:
To what extent do men decide on whether to pursue their careers or play a laid back role to fully participate in fatherhood post-divorce? Where their notable changes in personalities and behaviours post the divorce or separation both in the handling of parental duties as well as their general personalities? Is divorce or separation a facilitator for different actions and behavioural patterns? These questions were considerate in that they factored in different occupational decisions as well as an intense analysis and examination on both sociological and non-sociological life-work balance when it comes to men and fatherhood.
Data Collection:
Due to the lack of committed researcher in the divorce parents and fatherhood topic. This essay will be both inductive and iterative. The essay will predominately consist of individually semi-structured interviews with fathers who have experienced divorce or separated single fatherhood as well as their perception and views on the concerned topic. Consequently, the data provided helpful insight from fathers who were both actively and physically present as well as those who were most just providers and not actively involved in daily care. Similarly, the essay brings about a much more ethnographic method that highlights participant observation, both formal and informal group discussions and reflective interviewing as a means towards getting close to fatherhood as a routine action that entails active participation on all parental involved matters. And not just rare participation. The essay provides tools that enable readers to easily explore the insightful perspective of different fathers as they provide contents on the way they both live and handle fatherhood. Similarly, this paper only includes fathers who have only been separated or divorced for at the very least a year.
This is because a year is a significant amount of time hence these fathers are more likely to have reached a level of emotional attentiveness that they might not have to possess post-divorce. Hence the adjustment period provides a bit more accurate view of things. The key competencies noted during the adjustment period was the father’s occupation, employment status, organizational systems, and the father’s general identity. All these issues brought into focus the different ways men n fatherhood position tackle this issue and how fast they can adjust to their situations both physically and emotionally. Self-employed fathers provided different data as they were a bit more flexible in their hours as well as their adjustment period.
Data Analysis:
Generally, the three main questions play an important role in that they provide an analytical review and viewpoint of the data collected. These questions also provide an accurate framework of events and how social situations affect fatherhood. In general. The questions explore the subjective, cultural as well as structural dimensions of the interview materials. This research is explicitly exploratory and provides an inductive approach. Hence the data analysis requires an open-minded as well as reflective enjoyment son as to allow the emergence of participant terms instead of theory testing strategies normally used while conducting various researches (De Montigny. et al 2012) The used analytical approach involves many processes normally described as grounded theories. This means that this essay aims to brings about accounted as well as documented personal and practices used in the adjustment period of divorce or rather parent separation. The adjustment period mostly entails the roles taken to set in place a new rhythm of things especially when it comes to that adjustment od the typology of earner and carer roles involved. While it may not bring about highly comprehensive assertions.
This essay will aim to offer a model that will in turn enhance the understanding of divorce or rather separated fatherhood as well as the ever-evolving social and political improvements. Moreover, the fact that this essay offers an experimental perspective ensures that the data provided is not used as objective reality or as a reflection of noted events (Wilson, 1977). The analysis will involve a substantial level of coding the topic discussed and described as fatherhood while simultaneously shaping the provided perspective into something that is both knowledgeable and relatable. This is mainly because the interviews in this essay are treated as both a resource and the topic discussion in relevance to its reflective research style which plays a vital role.
Research Aims and Objectives Overall Aim:
This research essay aims to both find and navigate ways in which newly divorced fathers can adopt to their lives post-divorce effectively. It also highlights her need for further studies on this topic. While providing questions that are generally asked but that have yet to fully receive well regulated and researched answers.
Specific objectives:
• To fully analyse the tension noted by newly divorced or separated fathers.
• To examine questions that still need answers on the topic of fatherhood post-divorce.
• To empirically explore the interrelations between newly divorced fathers and the thing that affect their daily lives, careers and employment statuses.
Method:
This project ensures the use of ethnographic methodologies that are simultaneously combined with an in-depth qualitative approach on how the situation is seen from a social perspective (Wilson, 1977). In the first phase, an introduction to the topic is made as well as an included relevant study report.
