Introduction
Healthcare workers should not dominate the care provision but should remain witnesses to the patient experience. A patient should not take a submissive and inactive role in the healthcare practice. Patients have a vital role, such as adhering to treatment which contributes to recovery. Decision-making is not a duty for the healthcare workers alone but a collaborative effort to improve patient care.
Nurse-Patient Relationship
The selected article by Molina-Mula and Gallo-Estrada (2020) examines the impact of the nurse-patient relationship on the quality of care and patient autonomy. The authors argue that an excellent patient-nurse relationship reduces hospital stay, improves the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Molina-Mula and Gallo-Estrada (2020) indicate that domination over a patient leads to depersonalization and poor patient-practitioner relationship. The authors used the phenomenological qualitative study to examine the patient-practitioner relationship. The article is an eye-opener since it emphasizes that nurses should not dominate the provision of the care process.
I believe patients must take an active role in the care provision. Patients have a vital role, such as adhering to treatment which contributes to recovery. A patient’s opinion gives a practitioner the knowledge on how to provide care. For example, a patient can narrate past experiences with a certain drug. An excellent patient-nurse relationship reduces hospital stay and improves the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Nurses should make a deliberate effort to improve their relationships with patients. For instance, nurses should develop active listening skills to relate effectively with diverse patients.
My experience with magnet was insightful and compelling. I learned the various aspects that are vital for the nursing profession. I look forward to using magnet frequently to improve my skills. I learned that nurses should explore various tools, concepts, and databases to enhance their knowledge in nursing.
Conclusion
The patient-practitioner relationship plays a vital role in the quality of care. Healthcare workers should not dominate the care provision but embrace a collaborative role. Quality patient-practitioner relationship reduces hospital stay, improves the quality of care and patient satisfaction.
