Ought we attempt to end pain? End pain not with things that block the feeling of pain (opioids) but by curing the underlying genetic cause of pain?

Is the only viable response to human dis/ability or difference to eliminate it? If so, why? If not, why not? How might we create a society in which people of typical and atypical physical, mental, and emotional abilities are able to work, live, and thrive alongside one another?

In what ways might genetic enhancement exacerbate (e.g. make worse) inequalities that already exist in today’s world or ameliorate (make better) these inequalities. What about the cost of the treament; would genetic enhancement put the poor and vulnerable at worse disadvantage? How would the cost of this treatment be covered? Who is entitled to it?
