Techonology Affecting Consumerism
Advancement in technology has empowered and Helped people and organizations in many different ways, for instance, the ability to achieve our goals, create content, make decisions and opinions, and promote the digital media space. Additionally, advancements in technology have several negative impacts on society, especially in creating unquestioning, passive consumerism and making people do little or think less. Education is one of the sectors that has embraced technology, especially in conducting research and promoting productivity (Spash, and Clive, page 1-6).
Despite technology being the best tool in offering education and knowledge, technology has created dominance and passive consumerism. People consume everything that is the difference in the digital space, without the freedom of choosing what is right or wrong and involvement in activities that cannot help in the future. For instance, games choose to play games for leisure, which others choose the type of games that make them feel challenged. The rate at which technology is advancing required consumers or instead uses to b interested in the opportunities unleashed by the recent technology. According to a report, technology has made kids robots because most children do not participate in activities showed on various programs, listen and sit back, making them captives and inactive (Spash, and Clive, page 1-6).
Active consumerism involved engagement productive media activities, such as blogging, vlogging, and coding, which are some of the activities that Help in broadening individual skills, and developing intelligence and behavioral abilities. Today, technology has become unquestionable, where students and other users depend on technology even in thinking and making the slightest decision that does not require the involvement of technology. Passive consumers do not think critically, hence remain to be consumers instead of creators and innovators (Graafland, Johan, et, al.,137-147). Passive consumers tend to scroll through feeds on social media, look at how life is great for other people without engaging in any form of activity, such as posting or visiting an educative site.
Consumerism plays a vital role in shaping and promoting scientific advancement., mainly active consumerism. Future technology might provide excessive freedom beyond measure that might affect future advancements and innovations (Thierer, page 16) Adam. Future technology has raised some concerns, where life will not be great for many people, especially considering that technology has made human resources irrelevant and human innovation less critical(Spash, and Clive, page 1-6). The high rate of job losses and replacement of human labor by robots and artificial intelligence will lead to a negative digital life. On the other hand, consumerism has been reported to affect creativity, leading to more minor scientific innovations than the past and present. Technology is causing more problems than solutions; for instance, the high dependency on technology has been reported to create more issues and failures due to dependency on machines. Technological and scientific freedom will lead to misinformation, pervasiveness, and exploitation (Spash, and Clive, page 1-6). Considering the facts more significant percentage of people are passive consumers, spending more time on pornography, scrolling, bullying, and conducting illegal activities, becoming innovative, and scientific advancement will be a big issue in the future.
The use of artificial intelligence will promote disinformation, promotes the use of likes and deep fakes. Fake news will promote manipulation and clout chasing, where power will be based on the number of likes and influence (Thierer, Adam, page 16). Most people and organizations are negative and worried about the future technology, and the consequences of the limitless freedom technology will have to offer in the future. Overestimating the impact and ability of technology is one of the reasons behind less advancement in the future (Spash, and Clive, page 1-6). Technology, however, might create too much confidence towards investors, and business people, hence investing more money on applications and software that might fail or not promote human ability and respect human values, such as privacy.
According to technological pioneers, some technologies will change the world in 2025, for instance, energy transformation advancement, AI-optimization, quantum computing, and health technologies, such as gene editing and immunotherapy, which are meant to reduce cancer (Graafland, Johan, et, al.,137-147). However, the types of technologies will Help in promoting sustainability, although they can be a cause of more significant issues and complications that require more advancement.
Our way of thinking on where to direct our science and technology resources is misguided, not well organized, and considerable. The main goal for corporate interests and funding is to promote automation through computerization and networking (Graafland, Johan, et, al.,137-147). The main aim of technology advancement is to make things easier and reduce fatigue and time spent conducting a particular task. Still, it does not focus on consumerism and the impact technology has on consumers.
Investing in technology is a good decision, especially in the improvement of service, which promotes economic, and social growth, but taking care of the current space would be more beneficial, especially on limiting the kind of freedom digital space users, promoting privacy, and preventing the use of media for political reasons (Graafland, Johan, et, al.,137-147). Promoting active consumerism would be one way to promote digital expansion and advancement, which would, however, lead to positive impacts, such as creativity and innovations. However, our resources should be directed to the development of policies that promote active consumerism, and protection of consumer values, and promoting consumer acceptance (Thierer, and Adam, page 16) However, the policies should advocate for sustainable consumption, hence creating a better world of technology that is not questioning morality, delivery, and creation.
