Week 5 Discussion

Week 5 Discussion

This has been a very educational and interesting topic that has helped me learn more. This topic has taught me a few things that will help me build my career. The first big thing I’ve learned is about the COPD Gold Guidelines. This week’s lesson taught me how to look over information about new rules and make sure it’s up to date. This has been my worst nightmare, because I couldn’t study and update the policies before this lesson. I have learned that a FEV1/FVC ratio of 0.70 after taking a bronchodilator is a sign of COPD. This is a very important idea that has helped me learn more about it and how to deal with it. The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) approach of putting airflow restrictions into stages has also helped me understand how to deal with them.

Another important thing I learned was the difference between obstructive and restrictive lung diseases. I was able to learn and understand the differences between diseases that make it hard to breathe and diseases that make it hard to breathe. Warner explains in 2022 that obstructive lung diseases include conditions that make it hard to get air out of the lungs and back in. People with lung problems that make it hard to get enough air in have restrictive lung conditions. This condition has main symptoms that are almost the same, like shortness of breath. This lesson has helped me understand how to tell the two lung problems apart. The best way is to use the forced expiratory ratio (FEV1/FVC or FER%), which is the ratio of FEV1 to FVC as a percentage. I have learned to tell the difference between the two.

Lastly, I learned about the most common type of lung cancer. Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer, especially in the United States (Lobb, 2018). People who don’t smoke are also said to get this cancer. So, it is now one of the biggest problems. But I also know that Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is the best way to treat my cancer and will help my career.
